The Kiiboom Moonshadow V2 is my favorite mechanical keyboard. It will make the perfect gift this holiday season!

My 36-key #RP2040-powered custom #MechanicalKeyboard is almost ready! I now need to flash it, but I can't say I'm impressed by any of the popular firmware projects. 😒 My gripe spans from GitHub being used as a synonym for version control system, pipe-to-Bash of random scripts, toolchains hard to reproduce, etc.

JLCPLC have shipped my new #ErgonomicKeyboard PCB and case - another #MechanicalKeyboard designed with #Ergogen, and my biggest yet at 52 keys including a numberpad and cursors! I have #QMK and #ZMK firmware done, but will it be assembled in time to go under the Christmas Tree? 🎄⌨

Screenshot of ZMK Studio, a graphical tool for changing the keymap of a programmable keyboard, showing my Slump52 design with a numberpad and cursors in only 52 keys. The blank key here is plus/equals (flipping the usual US/UK key behaviour).

#mechanicalkeyboard / #splitkeyboard / #ergonomickeyboard people to the rescue!

I wanted to finish the long overdue split KB for the office but can't find caps for it -_-

I'm looking for simple blank DSA keycaps without unpleasantly sharp edges for my Iris Rev.7 but simple dark or wooden themed #ortholinear keycaps seem to be hard to get these days and sold out everywhere I checked.

I'm very much not in the market for pastel colors. Help/boosts greatly appreciated

I have a new mechanical keyboard and I love it. Lofree Flow lite is reasonably priced, is wonderful to type with and solves issues I had with all my Keychron and Logitech keyboards. Wonderful.

20 minutes until my appointment, using the time to put the finishing touches on the assignment for this week…

Photo of a MacBook and a mechanical keyboard on an outdoor table in front of a fountain with the inscription “1797.”

New Azio Neon Flux Dark keycaps for the good old Keychron K3 V1, after the original see through caps started to get a bit faded.

They're ABS keycaps but feel as high quality as PBT ones. It was also tricky to find keycaps compatible with this keyboard as it uses a "triangular" setup for the larger keys which is unusual and Keychron themselves don't sell any new compatible sets anymore.

So, I'm thinking of throwing a birthday party... For my Model M keyboard which is 30 next year. My partner has already accepted my calendar invite, so that's a good sign.

Ideas for party games / activities?

If I were to buy a #MechanicalKeyboard, any chance I could get the following features?
- Full size German layout (F1-F19)
- Automatic backlight
- Bluetooth wireless
- USB-C wired connectivity that supports USB-C to USB-C cables

So I forgot that half the reason I got the 3d printer was for my keyboard, and that the filament I have is like. The perfect color for keycaps? So I'm printing off keycaps now. I have all of the 1.5Us done, printing out the 2Us+8 of the 1U keys now, then I'll go by row printing off the rest of the 1Us to take advantage of the gradient going down the keyboard 😁

I am inordinately proud of myself – wanted a textured pattern to silkscreen on the top plate of my next keyboard iteration

#mechanicalkeyboard #ergomechkeyboard

a preview of the top switch plate for a non-split ergonomic mechanical keyboard - the layout is 6×3+3 with a half number row - the preview shows a white PCB with a black silkscreen pattern based off the classic Commodore BASIC "maze" one-liner

First significant update to my #Preonic #mechanicalKeyboard “Bucktooth” layout. After 10 years of reaching too far for the -/_ and =/+ keys I am trying out a new layout where I put them on the bottom row where I had the exclusive space bar keys (the exaggerated color in some keycap colorways and different keycap shapes for the two space keys inspired the name “bucktooth”) . The top row keycap profile used now on the bottom row is not as nice as the rounded top space keys (available in VERY FEW keysets!) but are still good for my thumbs to easily home on them and frankly means a lot more keysets will work with Bucktooth 2 layouts. Still using a mislabeled backtick/tilde key here in the third row but not planning to change that anytime soon because the symmetry of backtick and forward tick next to each other is so good.

The trsdeoff and learning curve is that to actually hit - and = I need to use the fn key with them which is a violation of the design parameter for the original Bucktooth layout of “all printable ASCII on the base layer” …but the reach for those top middle keys was causing me to move my wrists, which basically defeats the primary purpose of using Bucktooth. I used to use Dvorak keysets that let me put - on row 3 but those are hard to find and while sure I can touch-type, I kind of hated how most keysets looked with the - on row 3 and = on row 1 next to a differently colored backtick. Now backtick lives on row 3 next to apostrophe or “forward tick” hahah

Shown here is my portable BT Preonic by Keyboardio (white) with the key swap between the space bar locations and the older Bucktooth 1A locations in the center of the top row, and one of my older Bucktooth boards with - on row 3 and backtick on row 1; note the colorway discrepancies where the keyset tries to color keys that are on the edge of the US English layout differently, like modifiers.

An ortholinear mechanical keyboard with a black case and white sculpted keycaps with black legends at a low 60 degree angle so the sculpted keycap angles are more obvious. The layout of 5 main rows of 1U keys by 12 keys across is augmented by two larger keys and a volume knob above
the top right of the main keyboard. The layout pushes the printable characters to the edges of the keyboard and uses almost only the lowest row for modifiers and keys for enter, escape, tab, backspace and cursor
movement. Notably two keys on the bottom
row each one key away from the center columns use a high sculpted profile from the top row and are expected to be where the thumbs rest. They are the dash/underscore on the left and the equals/plus sign keys on the right. The center column is all punctuation or symbol keys for the first four rows, except the top row where the middle columns have unlabeled keys. The layout of letters is the same as US English layouts with a Shift key left of Z on the fourth row down, and P in the right column on the second row down. There are cursor
down and cursor right keys in the rightmost columns of the bottom row, with a function key to the left of them. The keyboard is sitting on a leatherette semi-reflective material with sunlight glare behind it.Two more simple 12x5 ortholinear keyboard original Bucktooth layout examples, one with purple flat keycaps for most printable characters and cyan keycaps for modifiers and function keys, and another with mostly grey sculpted keycaps for printed characters but some are black including the backtick in the top row and apostrophe in the middle and the backslash in the lower center. Two keys are red, the ESC key on the lower left and the enter symbol key on the right side next to the right space key.

Ok ok...maybe their top of the line, Q-HE-8K series that is ~$200+ for a keyboard? ... nope out of stock #MechanicalKeyboard

2025-12-03

Ahh, maybe they're just keeping stock/deliveries of their higher end Q-Max series? ... nope 0 in stock, 21 out of stock #MechanicalKeyboard

Every time I look at Keychron's website to buy a #MechanicalKeyboard, it seems that what I want is consistently sold out; can't help but wonder how the company makes money when they never seem to have any stock.

@AAMfP @adamhsparks custom choc keycaps are tempting but personally I Iike the smaller keyboards (recently dropped to a 34 key layout), and it becomes less and less necessary to label the keycaps. But I have a solution for that creative urge - I have started to design keyboards for family members 🤣 astrobeano.blogspot.com/2025/1 #MechanicalKeyboard
