I checked multiple stats sites and it seems the number of monthly posts on the Fediverse crossed one billion for the first time this month.

Called it quits after 40 years as a surgeon, teacher and medical administrator, and now spending what remains of my tenure on Gaia by aimlessly wandering around, mentoring young (and not-so-young) people, reading and when the mood hits me, writing in the domains of healthcare (including technology), wellness, productivity and self improvement.
β Intrigued by the miracle called Life and how we give it so little cognisance; fascinated by the unsolvable riddle of consciousness.

#Poombarai village can be seen above the terraced farms and below the forest canopy.
Line-of-sight distances are misleadingβ¦ getting there means following the route that hugs the hillsides, winding around for a lot more kilometers than you'd like π
@harshad Yes, in hill stations that takes some time to get used to. Line-of-sight does not matter. In addition, the winding, switchback roads make you lose all sense of direction.
Just randomly realised that "cis" is actually a kind of curse word/a word used to express rage and hate in Bahasa Malaysia, and if you call someone "cis woman" it's literally "shit(!) woman"
π Have a feeling that term won't catch on in this neck of the woods
Also remembering the days after studying Hikayat Hang Tuah we would go around saying "Cis, bedebah!" cos it was such a fancy way of cussing at people.
How I found a new home online at Mastodon, after giving up on Twitter. More like a village than a city, Mastodon has less cruelty and bad-faith debates than Twitter, in my experience Could it be a social media platform to trust, asks Annalee Newitz. https://www.newscientist.com/article/mg25834340-300-how-i-found-a-new-home-online-at-mastodon-after-giving-up-on-twitter/

You can make more friends in two months by becoming interested in other people than you can in two years by trying to get other people interested in you.
- Dale Carnegie
So true here on the #Fediverse. Solid advice for those starting out here. Be interested in other people. π
@1healthau Getting the most out of Mastodon takes a lot of work. Nothing is there for you when you begin - a tabula rasa. As suggested, you follow hashtags and people. When you find someone (or somewhere) add them to a list. Lists are where I have found the most value. You have to build them and then use them as your primary timeline. Be patient and choosy; don't go scrambling all over; forget FOMO once and for all. Over time, you will have a great experience with a friendly, respectful group.

@LesterHammerer Besides their creative genius, the artists at MAD have, in general, lived very long lives. Al Jaffee - 102! Laughter is truly the best medicine.
βAs nightfall does not come at once, neither does oppression. In both instances, there is a twilight when everything remains seemingly unchanged. And it is in such twilight that we all must be most aware of change in the air β however slight β lest we become unwitting victims of the darkness.β

@sreedevkkumar David versus Goliath. They need a good slingshot and pebble.
