I got some help with the webfinger discoverability and you can now find your #Nolto profile from any instance in #fediverse That caused some loops though so we moved the site to https://www.nolto.social and there is no redirection so it will be difficult to spread the word.

I’m taking some time off the project due to some really hard comments on Mastodon. I really thought they wouldn’t get to me but they did. I hate the internet.

Wij zijn een van de 13:

• Frits komt bijna iedere maand met weer een verkregen laptop. Inmiddels kan hij al zelfstandig Ubuntu installeren.
• Hans had eerder een NUC gekocht, en ik heb vorige week bij hem thuis LinuxMint geïnstalleerd. Daarbij werd het originele OS overschreven. Maar toen pakte zijn monitor het HDMI signaal niet... De volgende dag al had hij een prachtige goedwerkende monitor bij het grofvuil gevonden!
• Sander had zelf al LinuxMint geïnstalleerd, maar het wilde vaak niet starten. Het bleek een verouderde BIOS. Het probleem echter was dat de speciale BIOS voor gebruik met Linux in een .exe file geleverd werd. Uiteindelijk toch gelukt, en de laptop doet het nu uitstekend!
• Saskia heeft vorige maand kennisgemaakt met Linux, en kwam terug met een heleboel vragen. Nazorg is ook een belangrijk aspect bij onze Inloop!
• @eugene_072 kwam met zijn nieuwe NUC om te informeren of nextCloud erop geïnstalleerd kan worden. Ja, dat kan zeker. Wij bevelen NextCloud-AIO aan, lastiger om te installeren, maar daarna nauwelijks nog onderhoud.
• Er kwam ook nog iemand aan met een stel oude laptops. Helaas te gebrekkig voor het #LaptopRevive project, maar we vinden zeker wel een goede bestemming. Twee ervan hadden 32-bit CPU's. We hebben er MX-linux op geïnstalleerd, leuk om ermee te spelen maar verder kunnen we er niets mee...
• Maartje had na alle verhalen over de #BigTech besloten over te stappen op Linux. Ze had geen backup gemaakt van haar bestanden, dus dat liep nogal uit in tijd.
• T. is gesteld op privacy en had eerder een extra sterk wachtwoord aangemaakt, maar thuisgekomen werkte het niet meer. ;-) Laptop in rescue mode opgestart en wachtwoord aangepast. Nu gebruikt ze een wachtwoordzin, met alleen maar kleine letters en heel erg lang. Makkelijk te onthouden en eigenlijk nog veel veiliger.
• Op de foto was de fooienpot nog leeg, maar werd later rijkelijk gevuld (Dank allen). Zo konden wij aan het eind van de dag in het WG-café gezellig borrelen.

Dringend gezocht, BE: een cadeaubon van een platform dat maaltijden aan huis levert! Voor een moeder die lekker eten aan haar jarige kind had beloofd, maar helaas te ziek is om boodschappen te doen of te koken. Er is niets meer in huis. Boodschappen worden pas overmorgen geleverd! 🙏

From the start of the recent protests in Iran, following the experience of the 12-day war between Iran and Israel and the experiences of the Aban 1398 (2019) and 1401 (2022-2023) protests, we knew widespread internet disruptions were coming. Earlier, active members of the free software community had set up internal Delta Chat relay servers on tiiiz.ir.
Relying on that prior experience, we conducted practical user tests with general users to observe their interaction with the application.
The result was clear: Delta Chat was far simpler for everyday users to understand and had a more intuitive interface compared to platforms like Matrix.

That’s why, together with community members, we began producing educational content for Delta Chat. The goal was to prepare users as much as possible before Iran’s internet was completely severed and localized.
