Damn, India is BIG.
Iโve never been,
so I have no idea really.
I just looked up where @harshad is living
and thought, ooh, thatโs not so very far from where my mum grew up in the Nilgiri Hills โ https://mastodon.social/@urlyman/111486789535423313 โ butโฆ
turns out that โnot so very farโ is 150 miles (240km) and that distance is *piffling* on the scale of India ๐ฒ
Forgetting the history of Unix is coding us into a corner

People who claim they want to save #firefox need to get to work and not just toot: create a co-op structure, and convince the top gecko/firefox developers to join it (make sure to not hire the idiots still believing that Firefox is failing today because of the FirefoxOS effort from... 10 years ago). Cutting the oxygen to the current inept MoCo leadership is the only option to be in control. This will be hard but fun.
I've been thinking a lot about flow and scaling and security and I wrote a post about it. (https://www.jemurai.com/blog/matts-take/scale-flow-and-security?utm_source=infosec.exchange&utm_medium=organic_social&utm_campaign=3300&utm_content=5300)
I would love to hear people's feedback and what is working / not working in distributed heterogeneous teams.

I have never regretted learning the power of `ffmpeg`.
So I have this hour-long video that took almost two hours to render. And now I needed to put something new near the end. With a little bit of `ffmpeg` magic I did not need to re-render everything. I just cut the last few minutes from the already rendered version (lossless `-codec copy`), rendered the last few minutes, and then concated the two videos (again `-codec copy`). This took 30 seconds to execute (but 30 minutes to find out)
I've set myself a target to write *or edit* one line of a blog draft every day. Especially allowing editing makes the barrier really low. Before I did this, I was basically inactive on my own open source #rustlang libraries and side projects. Now, while progress is still snail-paced, at least there is any progress.
When used responsibly, #AI can be a powerful partner. It can streamline repetitive and draining tasks while allowing humans to excel in areas where they provide unique value, such as imagination, creative direction, and human connection. If nothing else, people will always be needed to edit and curate the output of AI systems for their target users and audiences.

something I've learned from looking at women's clothes online...
women are seriously tracked / stalked across the internet by companies.
I use nextdns.io and block a lot of trackers, marketing things, malware... and I use NoScript with Firefox.
as a man shopping for men's stuff... the internet works with all shield's up.
as a woman shopping for women's stuff... the internet does not work as well.
there is so much synchronous tracking that blocks women's clothing websites from working, I must temporarily allow 10-20 domains and so many JavaScript files served from AWS, just to get the pics on a page to render fully, let alone to be able to search for things.
it's virtually impossible to interact with a women's clothing store with shields up, and to have it work.
the $$$ spent on marketing within clothes shopping clearly optimises fully towards women... men aren't even a concern... so the stalking of women by companies who want a slice of their spend, it's crazy
Skiff raised ~$14m in VC to build an open source alternative Google Suite. Now it's being acquired by Notion and the code has been taken down.
All software is ephemeral. File over app.
I keep Windows on one computer and am constantly amazed at Microsoft's brazen indifference to what I want, as opposed to what it wants.
Today's example is a reboot I didn't initiate, for an update that included the "Copilot" feature I do not want to use now, if ever. No apparent way to uninstall it.
(This is one reason why I've used Linux as my primary OS for well over a decade...)
