@keepandroidopen I should point out that on 16, both and contacts apps FAILED to import legit contacts files; they may be trying to force you to use cloud. The workaround is to use and that is what works for me. brave.com/blog/keep-android-op

@grahamperrin The critical imports are done, but I'll file this away for next time, good find, cheers. Not having secure boot is a pain, and it was luck and flaw finding that workaround! The bridge setup is far more painful and needs documenting before I restart that laptop next.

@grahamperrin It's the cut-off for osinfo-db updates in Ubuntu 24.04 as shipped.

Kryptonite detected: None of the main Linux readers support the rendering engine. In 2026. C'mon. Get real. would be the answer, but the author declines to port it as it's too inherently tied to itself. KDE never incorporated the backend for and it's been forked on GitHub nearly 12 times. I tried but I found the UI was too minimalist. is still stuck using . sumatrapdfreader.org/

If an LLM is used for military purposes, then the datacenters hosting the LLM become legitimate military targets.

LeCun doesn't mince his words about why he ultimately decided to leave Meta after more than a decade. Staying became politically difficult, he tells me. And while Zuckerberg likes LeCun's world model research, the crowd who were hired for the company's new superintelligence push are "completely LLM-pilled".

"You don't tell a researcher what to do. You certainly don't tell a researcher like me what to do"

This clearly alienated LeCun. "I'm sure there's a lot of people at Meta, including perhaps Alex, who would like me to not tell the world that LLMs basically are a dead end when it comes to superintelligence," he says. "But I'm not gonna change my mind because some dude thinks I'm wrong. I'm not wrong. My integrity as a scientist cannot allow me to do this."

@basernst @nextcloud @pluralistic RSSGuard fan here. Brave would be OK but they shovel it into new tab, and I prefer those to be totally blank. Edge gave me a very, very bad experience. Memory leakage like crazy and baked-in ad trackers!

Something I really like is reading articles through my RSS feed reader (I use News from @nextcloud ). #RSS, or Really Simple Syndication, is still just a brilliant old bit of tech that lets you find and read what you want, without obnoxious algorithms or questionable web design getting in the way.

Some time ago, Cory Doctorow @pluralistic gave some great tips how to use RSS: doctorow.medium.com/you-should

@ngate Yeah but I just tried to buy an N100 box twice last week and got cancelled by the sellers. There's no DDR5 or DDR4 anywhere now. I bought a Haswell era DDR3 desktop just because it was the only way I could get some DRAM.

GenAI risk management: limit exposure and switch to where @drewdevault has committed to protecting developers. allegedly trained GitHub on material code, when we all know cannot cite like humans. Potentially massive IP violation. My PhD is and if the RAG LLMs can't abide by the terms, then the people who are using them are in violation. And yes, I will enforce terms. There's pending case law for this. Lots and lots of it!
