In #astrophotography we tend to share only our best shots, which can be demotivating for newcomers. So here's one of my early #photo fails, from back when I was a teen.

I went out to shoot a meteor shower with my #film camera. When the pics came back from the lab a few days later, I was gutted to see they were all red! The light from an LED had leaked onto the film. But I learned from that mistake and taped that LED.

On the right, an example of what is needed to stop the effects of the scientific programme of eugenics. Unchecked by any serious ethical oversight, eugenics became policy (Nourse, 2016). Activism such as that captured by this poster, by Romero and San Francisco Poster Brigade (1977), was and is pivotal in curbing crimes against humanity, that this theory not only facilitates through granting white supremacist sterilization programmes scientific prestige, but also eugenics stipulates such abuse is required for the so-called health of our species (“Forced Sterilizations,” 2017; also see Ipgrave et al., 2022). The exact opposite is the case: eugenics around the world needs to end, if we are to preserve our dignity, and if we are to ever have a chance of claiming science is a force for good.

The Respect for Marriage Act has just passed the House, 258-169, including 39 Republicans.

It will protect millions of LGBTQ families who otherwise would not have that protection. Senator Tammy Baldwin deserves enormous credit for her leadership in making this happen.

It is a very good thing that this bill is being passed, but it is also a signal of future obstacles. Do not get complacent. This does not end any battles for LGBTQ rights, but it does better prepare us for the battles to come.

Approaching a box of mixed small bolts & screws with essentially no hope to find a single searched for one... is way less of a let-down than finding three of the searched-for items - but not a fourth one :0)

It's tough for wildlife, for the homeless and those who can't afford to pay the bills... but my is it beautiful!
