Challenging Assumptions: Scientists Discover That the Northern Peatlands Are Still Expanding https://scitechdaily.com/challenging-assumptions-scientists-discover-that-the-northern-peatlands-are-still-expanding/ #science
@tomcapuder You are missing my point: Belief in god isn’t required to practice.
@tomcapuder can you provide evidence of anything that happens inside of conciousness? Prove to me you love your family. Prove that the color red you see is the same color red that I see. So actually trying to prove that god does or doesn’t exists is quite silly. But really I’m not arguing here. You assumed that faith is required for religion. My point is that some brief investigation will show that the majority of people on the planet will say it is not required.
@tomcapuder it’s only the abrahamic religions that require faith as the first step. Indian philosophical/spiritual schools of thought focus on direct experience of the divine. When you practice in one of these traditions faith is not required but it may come later as a side effect of repeated experiences. To your point about compatibility with science: as an example, it is often said that the nondual #Advaita Vedanta school is completely compatible with modern science.
THE OUTDOOR MUSEUM…
I noticed this community hall while driving through Saltwater River—it is a district, not a village—on turrakana-Tasman Peninsula on Tasmania’s east coast. So, of course, I had to stop and photograph it.
What was its attraction? I think it had to do with the building’s isolation, there where it stood on the shore. It was also its typicality. There are other community halls like it that we find dotted across the Tasmanian and Australian landscape.
With a distant shot I tried to capture the building’s loneliness in its environment of bush, coast and big sky.

@ThunderHoneySnow I just saw #phdlife in your profile. If you are academic minded you will really love Bryant’s sutra commentary because it’s really a meta-commentary. For each verse he compares and contrasts different commentaries against each other plus gives historical context. End notes galore.
@ThunderHoneySnow @unknown8bit Happy to discuss any time.
@ThunderHoneySnow @unknown8bit yoga sutras, advaita Vedanta, tantra, Sri vidya, shaivism. Sankya is interesting too but I’m focused on non-dualism these days. Bhagavad Gita is what I’m working on now with reinforcement from https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL2imXor63HtS4ewIKryBL4ZVeiaH8Ij4R. I read a few verses per week and listen to the corresponding lecture. Going on a year now 😂
@ThunderHoneySnow @unknown8bit I could talk about yoga scripture all day.
@ThunderHoneySnow @unknown8bit Good choice. Bryant is the one to own if only own one :-). He also has the definitive book on Bhakti yoga.
@unknown8bit @ThunderHoneySnow this yoga sutra’s commentary is so light you could read it at the beach https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/19107945-how-to-know-god
@unknown8bit @ThunderHoneySnow Bryant is my favorite commentary! There are so many good ones though. “Inside the yoga sutras” might be the easiest on human brains and those trying to apply it to practically to their personal practice. It has a very contemporary style and tone.
@JosephA isn’t that #photography ? We have a million hashtags around here with low traffic on every one so why a subtopic. This kind of discussion is why I’m on #photography :-)
