:no_nazi: The 60 Minutes report on CECOT that Bari Weiss censored is now internet contraband // @theverge
「 The segment lives as online samizdat now. Thanks to Weiss’ censorship, it may very well wind up being the most-talked-about CBS News story this year 」

“Most people know #RSS powers blogs and podcasts.
“But it powers popular news apps too…like Lexis Nexis or Bloomberg. It’s also widely used to keep track of status updates of all kinds: weather, software updates, infrastructure uptime, and so on.
“Most of this activity happens behind the scenes.
“Publishers often think of feeds as an afterthought, but entire industries rely on them.
“It’s a workhorse that's become essential infrastructure for the web.”

Someone like @Noupside could work magic with a tool like this and internet archive.

- POTUS doesn't want you to watch this
- His administration blocked it from airing on 60 minutes hours before it was supposed to
- He is doing actual government censorship of the same type he falsely accused the previous administration
- Even if you don't usually watch 60 minutes, you might want to consider watching it for the above reasons
- watching it, having empathy for what is happening to people in your community, talking about it with others, writing your reps, etc. helps!
We were out shopping at Barrington Mall today and I was surprised to see this big sign saying “Shopping is pointless” next to a photo of a happy woman in a field of flowers.
My first thought was that it’s some surprisingly on point anti-commercialism messaging to see in a mall at Christmas time.
Then I realised that a word was being blocked from view. When I made a few steps to the left, the whole sign reads “Shopping elsewhere is pointless.”
They were so close!

@astrophoenix I love this about the linux ecosystem! So many options to tweak just how you want it!
That thing about the US current administration terrorizing people and sending them to prison in another country that POTUS also censored from showing on national tv at the last minute - the very kind of censorship they falsely accused of the previous administration...
You can watch it here thanks to a Canadian:
https://www.muellershewrote.com/p/watch-the-60-minutes-cecot-segment
And you should because:
- the POTUS doesnt want you to
- People are suffering
- you can make a difference
Where should I transfer my personal domain to from Squarespace?
I had originally registered with google domains back in the day, before they sold that business to Squarespace.
Squarespace seems expensive to just act as a registrar. I've heard people mention prokbun before. Anything else?
Added context:
- I have a small num of domains I'd like to transfer
- most of them are just serving static web pages from github.io
- dont need email
- I DO want private registration
It Wouldn't Surprise You If This Headline Was About 318 People Being Shot In 12 Different Public Places https://theonion.com/it-wouldnt-surprise-you-if-this-headline-was-about-318-1819574532/
I remember this very well. He was right of course.
A man died in Yamhill county, Oregon yesterday, driving through flood waters to get to work.
It's easy for me to say, but I want every employer to say it too. Be late if you have to. It's bad out there. Always assume that water is deeper than it looks. It might sound obvious, but most of us have pushed it one time or another. Be safe.

@jmac built a website that forecasts turbulence for all major-carrier flights in the United States. If you're a nervous flyer, it can be helpful to know what to expect before you get on the plane. This is a cool project that uses data from the NOAA and FAA.

Scoop by Michael M. Grynbaum at the NYT on the abrupt removal of the “60 Minutes” segment on El Salvador’s megaprison CECOT. The segment was cancelled/postponed by Bari Weiss, the new editor in chief of CBS News.
60 Minutes" correspondent Sharyn Alfonsi tells colleagues that CBS's decision to pull her segment tonight "is not an editorial decision, it is a political one."
