@erikavaris that’s inspiring! I am also recovering from a quad injury, running short distances at a slow pace on flat trails. Can’t wait to get back to my normal routine! So I am happy to read your recovery progress!

Just listened to @brucelawson interview @evan on For A Better Web. They talked extensively about the Social Web Foundation and ActivityPub in general. There was some interesting information in there to go with their conversation. Worth the listen in my opinion.

For most of my career I’ve talked about building things in a human-centered way.

Here’s another way to think about that: instead of focusing inwards and building for what *you* think is important, you need to focus outwards. Find the people you want to help and focus on making *their* lives better.

Here I am, sitting on a rock in a face of a cliff overlooking people surfing while learning about the Tarahumara tribe (amongst other things they are known for their running endurance and their pinole beverage.)

@WTL these are for walking at home, instead of using the regular at home slippers. They feel nice, although my feet needs some adapting time, probably in a few days will start feeling more and more comfortable until i won’t even notice the hard surface of these slippers.

I am giving to these a try. I have been curious for a long time about the barefoot movement and its health benefits, specifically on making your feet strong and improving your proprioception.

@matt very well said. This thing is bigger than all of us, including meta.

I was once a lone engineer building software in the world of the walled gardens of AOL and Microsoft and it sucked. It was a super constrained world where success meant having to convince a few people at Egghead to distribute your software or you were relegated to oblivion.

Then the web happened. AOL tried to bring the web into their walled garden and died. Microsoft fully embraced the web and thrived. But the web was an unstoppable force and even with the big players fighting for position, legions of independent developers built and shipped great things reaching hundreds of millions of people.

For too long, building anything that connects people in new and interesting ways has seemed futile because of the dominance of today’s walled gardens. That is all changing before our eyes because of the creativity, labor and persistence of lone engineers like you and Evan and Eugen and Dan.

Human connection is finally becoming an integral part of the open web during a time when those connections are more important than ever. This is bigger than all of us, including meta, and the future is bright for the developers building here.

My book ActivityPub: Programming for the Social Web is on its way to the virtual printers tomorrow, which means it will be available for purchase from all your favourite e-book stores at various points during next week. I will be taking this opportunity to have an online reading and book-signing party. The event is on September 30, 2024 at 9PM ET. You can follow this meeting link to join.

I’ll do a reading from parts of the book (the parts that are very accessible to everyone, not the code samples!) and a Q&A. I’ll also be doing a book signing for people who have already bought the book (or who buy it during the event). How do I sign an ebook? Simple: you show me proof that you bought the book, and I’ll post a note on the fediverse with whatever text you want and tag you in. It’s an instant collectible.

I’m looking forward to having more people read the book, and I really hope it helps more people write programs for the social web. Please feel free to join!

Did you know that Markdown has a "reference-style" link syntax that lets you move URLs outside your paragraph?:
```
You should [keep a changelog][keep], it will be good for your users!
[keep]: keepachangelog.com/en/1.1.0/
```

When you see a changelog with the version rendered in square brackets, it's because people didn't know about reference-style links! Look at the bottom of the sample changelog on keepachangelog.com!
