Support for Windows 10 ends on October 14, 2025. Microsoft wants you to buy a new computer. But what if you could make your current one fast and secure again?

Check out the End of 10 initiative to learn more! If you know anyone else who might find this useful, share it with them!

Finally took some time to polish and publish Eloquent.

It's a proofreading assistant, that works fully offline; powered by LanguageTool.

A screenshot of Eloquent.

There is a text editor with a bunch of spelling, grammar and logical issues with are underlined.

One of the underline issue has focus and a pop-over showing what the problem is as well as a suggestion to fix it.

Iteration is the cornerstone of good design, but sometimes things go out of hand :) I'm really happy we finally rolled out the new gnome.org

I'm now convinced using the GHC* framework will enable us to focus on updating the content rather than the framework/infrastructure. Thank you everyone involved in making this happen!

@arazil This doesn't need any changes from the application side, so yes it works with the new portal version.

@razze Yes, the grouping is linked to the app id/desktop file id. There are options where apps could use different dekstop file ids to control the grouping, but this still need work and discussion.

Friday night?

Perfect time to drop a blog post that might sound like clickbait, but that I genuinely hope can help forge a path forward while making everyone happy—or at least pissing everyone off equally (sometimes the best you can ask for!)

We're starting off the new year with an exciting new edition of Unboiling The Ocean! Join us for a discussion about peer-to-peer UX and threat models.

We have some special guests and questions to discuss, but mostly the plan is to have an open discussion around these topics to inform the design and development of the Aardvark text editor project.

Join us on Monday January 27 at 19:00 at @offline in Neukölln!

I've so far been using Folio for my note taking. It was more stable than Paper it derives from, but is strictly local. That becomes a problem when you have to wield more machines.

Iotas looks more pleasant (subjective) and goes for the explicit markdown view rather than combining presentation and editing like Folio. Much prefer that. But most of all, allows to sync between machines if you have Nextcloud instance available. So far it looks very neat.

Looks like it would be pretty easy to build an office suite that follows the GNOME HIG.
I recently figured out there is a LibreOffice tiled render that can be embedded into GTK, there is even a prototype in core of LibreOffice.

PSA: I'm stepping down from putting together an STF application for 2025.

Reflecting on our experiences with the STF project last year, I no longer think the GNOME Foundation is a good venue to organize development collectively. Even if the Foundation's current issues are fixed, we've seen how risky it is to centralize development in a single structure.

My hope is that we'll learn from this and find more sustainable, decentralized ways of organizing going forward.

Transnational hacking and FOSS bonding in action! Family trip brought me across the Atlantic, but got a chance to meet @pan and bring a FairPhone for development. It's amazing when we can not only hack, but also meet and enjoy the human part of it :)
