A while ago, I had started to use #Notion. Then I heard a few horror stories about people's notes getting randomly eaten.

I just migrated the few notes I had there to my main #Joplin notebooks, and I don't think it's any less clear this way. Just had to figure out how to make hyperlinks to other pages in Joplin and I was set.

Basically I was trying to create a master list of my to-do stuff. Now I have a master list of to-do stuff that I can just, you know, maintain, and while it needs a little bit more manual labour that Notion eliminates, I ultimately have some flexibility, and that counts for a lot.

Will keep the Notion account around *if* I ever need to collab with someone, but for personal notes, Joplin is far more sensible.

(Why not move to the app everyone else is moving to, #Obsidian? ...well, Obsidian is *entirely pointlessly* closed source, and Joplin does basically the same thing while being open source, so...)

In all other news I'm looking at switching to #KleverNotes over from #Joplin for Markdown-based #notes simply because it may be lighter on system resources. I am aware that Joplin is #Electron-based, and unfortunately, Electron-based apps are not the best when it comes to resource usage. At least, doing a quick RAM usage test between the two shows that KleverNotes, in my test case, used almost half of the RAM Joplin used, but that was just looking at System Monitor's memory usage for the two. Maybe it's because I didn't have as many notes as compared to Joplin, but unless there's something huge going on, I doubt that KleverNotes would use the same amount of memory Joplin does when it has the same notes.

Anyways, we'll see how it works out! 😄

I've been obsessed with finding a way to represent a network of notes visually in list format. I think I finally found a good combination of UX that works.

I've previously tried having Miller columns to represent each node and its children, letting you dive into each layer like using Finder. But the horizontal scrolling and deep nesting made it feel overwhelming. It also made displaying content hard. In the end, a traditional two-panel approach works well. #zettelkasten #notes #mac
