Last night saw the launch event for a 'zine that #OutputArts have been working on for the last year, alongside a researcher from UCL and a group with lived experience of domestic abuse. The 'zine contains practical advice on what you can do to support someone in need. You can download it for free on our website:

@tante all I agree with the need for experimentation, but I think the current model can handle that.

More problematic is that in more than 30 years, we haven't come up with a robust public-private model for financing open-source software. It's all stop-gap, one-offs, small-scale donations or corporate sponsorship. There are exceptions, such as Wikipedia, of course.

It has been a huge, missed opportunity to create the next generation of public institutions (like libraries, schools, public broadcasting), but so far, we failed. There is a lack of imagination and political will, even in Europe, which has a large and successful history in this field.

Avant Music News has been on Mastodon for almost 2 years now. We provide links to music news, reviews, and announcements on other sites, as well as publishing a dozen or so original album reviews per month.

We still do not have the following we had before dropping off the legacy (i.e., toxic) social media platforms. So if you are inclined, a boost or follow would be appreciated to expand our reach to other interested parties.
