@gambolloch It can be tough to keep a presence on two networks. I’ve enjoyed your photos over there and you definitely don’t owe us anything! Good luck with what you’re going through. 2025 has not been ideal.

@sunumbral Very short ferry! And open year-round now. Though the ferry company is pretty incompetent.

One from Governors Island last summer. My favorite place in New York. More info in the alt text.

An empty officer's home from when there was a base here. This one is off Nolan Park, so it was probably built in the 19th century. Many of these are now artist residences or galleries. One has a Robert Capa exhibit!

@MonaApp Hi, is there a way to keep hashtags I follow out of the main Mona feed? Or do I just need to unfollow hashtags? Thanks!

Hilversum Central Station

#FotoMontag #PhotoMonday #Urban #Photography

A low sun is shining down into the tunnel for cyclists and pedestrians that runs under Hilversum railway station. The light casts a warm, orange glow on the brick wall and on the ground below. The setting sun also creates a strong, long shadows of the people as they go through the passage.

Great Kills Park at sunset yesterday. A fun day trip; who knew you can hike in Staten Island?

The boat launch in the marina at Great Kills Park. I'd just seen deer and been unprepared for them, but a sunset is a bit slower.

Thought I had posted the date already, but this is from 2011. Just old computers, probably because of funding.

I loved these aid stations at Coney Island. Very mid-century modern.

Hundreds of these modular buildings were put on New York City beaches after Hurricane Sandy. They were in a hurry, since most of the existing ones had been destroyed.

One more from Coney Island: the wreck of the Quester I on a sunless day. This personal submarine was built in the 1960s to dive the Andrea Doria. Yes, really. More info in the alt text.

A Brooklyn dockworker named Jerry Bianco built this sub to recover salvage from the Andrea Doria—which would definitely not have worked out. During the launch, the crane operator dropped her in the mud and investors were too spooked to fund a recovery. The Quester I never sailed.

I was taking photos at a frigid Coney Island yesterday and encountered the Polar Bear Club! It was 15 °F and they were completely unfazed.

This was their leader. The mood was ebullient. They didn't swim out too far.And they were still there when I left!

@mleaomiranda Love the negative space in this! Torn on whether I like the landscape or portrait versions more.

The Glasgow War Memorial from a few years ago.

Also called the Glasgow Cenotaph, this commemorates Glaswegians—a new word for me—who served in WWI.

@cobalt123 Thanks! I was getting ready to photograph the room, but when I saw the hand, I took that photo instead.
