When I was kid we used to spell #gravy with two "a's" as in "graavy"... you can tell times are tough when people can't afford the extra "a".
Always learning!... and helping others to do the same. I've done research, written papers, taught maths, physics and science at high school and university... now doing bits and pieces

@eniko The world was a much better place when capitalism meant writing something in "all caps".
Whiteboards are remarkable.
HR: "Do you have a moment? We just want to ask you about your self-assessment?"
Me: "Sure."
HR: "So, for 'personality type', we were expecting something from Myers-Briggs. You know, like ENJF."
Me: "Oh?"
HR: "You selected 'Other' and filled in, 'Chaotic Good'."
Me: "Yes, that's right."
HR: "Why?"
Me: "Because I use the term 'fortnight' as often as possible in communications in a US-based company, replace 'z's with 's'es, and convert dates everywhere to ISO8601."
HR: "Well yes we can see how that would be classified as 'Chaotic Good', but we were expecting something grounded in science."
Me: "So why were you asking for Myers-Briggs?"
This is a very important point. Trans kids are kids who say they are, or want to be, their preferred gender. Not that they like things associated with that gender. This is a diagnostic distinction (between transgender identity and gender nonconformity) that was made YEARS ago. Look it up!

If there's one area where tech has shown a consistent aptitude for innovation, it's in accounting tricks that make money-losing companies appear wildly profitable. And AI is the greatest innovator of all (when it comes to accounting gimmicks).

It's only #gravy if it comes from the Chรขteau de Gravoux in France. Otherwise it's just thickened meat juice.
#UK / Streeting condemns anti-IDF chants while ignoring IDFโs โKilling Fieldsโ in Gaza
While condemning chants against the IDF (Bob Vylan led chants of 'Death, death to the IDF' during their set at Glastonbury) and criticizing settler violence in the occupied West Bank, health secretary seem to be deliberately ignoring #IDFโs systematic execution of unarmed Palestinians waiting for food aid in Gaza. His call for Israel to โget its own house in orderโ is somewhat cynical if not grotesque when measured against โOperation Salted Fishโโwhere Israeli soldiers were reported to have deliberately fired artillery and mortars at starving civilians, killing hundreds, in what one soldier called โa killing field.โ
Like many Western politicians Streeting has mastered the art of compartmentalized condemnation which enables ongoing atrocities by focusing on peripheral violence, while refusing to name the core problem, which is the brutality of #Israelโs death machine which the UK and other Western countries enable.โโโโโโโโโโโโโโโ

@NorCalWineLady @GottaLaff If they were going to apply this "fairly" Trump would be one of the first kicked out. But it's clear, it's just another tool to attack their "enemies". USians, in general, are not "safe".
Just heading home and... I can't resist saying it was "By Korea". A small, cool, hangout in one of Melbourne's many laneways. Basic furnishings, nothing posh, just great food. Best advert being that a lot of Korean people seem to frequent it.
I tend to talk too much, get a little over passionate, and forget to ask and listen. But I think I did a pretty good job today. I remember many key things she told me... a good sign.
Just socially exhausted and I have to go out tonight too. Argh!!
@vnikolov It was right there and I missed it!! And now, of course, I also think of a tug pulling a gravy boat!!
@heafnerj In spite of my credentials, much of the education I have that I value most, is the informal stuff, even in relation to physics and maths.
When I was younger, I realised there was much I did not know.
Now I'm older, I understand more precisely, how much I don't know.
(Feeling philosophical.)

@rothko @Uilebheist @LoganFive @tayfonay The number of people on Mastodon who'll read that is *way* less than the number of people accidentally included in Hegseth's chats.
โIn Finland, the number of homeless people has fallen sharply. Those affected receive a small apartment & counselling with no preconditions. 4 out of 5 people affected make their way back into a stable life. And all this is CHEAPER than accepting homelessness.โ
It costs a lot less to house people.
https://thebetter.news/housing-first-finland-homelessness/ Finland ends homelessness and provides shelter for all in need
And I will just add, yet again: none of the people talking like this envision *their* kids working in factories. Their kids will be the bosses. Of course. As god intended.
