Heerlijk een paar dagen op vakantie geweest. Weg van sociale verwachtingen, het gevoel van moeten en zelf-opgelegde druk. De ergste stress is weer uit mijn lijf. En dan komen de mooie ideeën op. Bijvoorbeeld voor mijn boek. Verhip, daar had ik sinds mei al niet meer aan geschreven. Snel aan de slag :)

There’s this idea that introverts don’t like conversation. That is false. What we don’t like is forced or less meaningful conversation such as small talk because it saps out the social energy that we actually do want to use in a more meaningful way with like-minded people.

@MaraBee1 Yes, the star lets you "favorite" posts, which is like a "like", but it does not cause the post to appear to anybody else.
The "boost" button works like retweet, and it causes everyone who follows you to see that post.

As a blind individual, I have to say that #Caturday on #Mastodon is far far more enjoyable then at #Twitter, where the vast majority of cat photos are not described.
It is also been fascinating for me to hear descriptions written by those who sent the image, immediately followed by Apple image recognition’s attempts to describe the same image. Only rarely does that add anything to the ALT, & often directly contradicts it.
There is no auto magical solution to image description. It is something best done by a human, for only that human can explain the “why” of the image: the reason that image was chosen to speak so eloquently without words for those who can see it. ALT allows you to provide those words.
As a #ScreenReader user, I find #hashtags at the end of a post to be suboptimal. As I'm unable to visually scan, I don't know that you haven't written anything after the hashtags, and hence have to choose between: listening to them anyway, or being okay with potentially missing content. When written inline within the flow of your text, this problem doesn't occur. #accessibility #a11y
Let me (re)introduce myself! My name is Ionica. I am a professor of science communication in Leiden where I study and teach #SciComm.
I moved from social to mathstodon, looking for a smaller local community (and you have the best t-shirt). I did my PhD on number theory and most of the science communication I do is still related to mathematics.

On Twitter, some people are warning that Mastodon server/instance admins can read your DMs. As if this would somehow be worse than Musk and Zuckerberg reading your messages.
More importantly: if Twitter & Facebook have taught us anything, it's that you shouldn't use a *public* social media platform for exchanging *private* messages.
That's what Signal is for.

@Are0h Not sure if thousands of deaths equal mass displacement, but the amount of corruption (money over human and environmental rights) around these big sports events have been the reason I stopped watching events like this ages ago, no matter where they take place.
