Yes I did set my alarm for 5am to watch #USNWT
Great goalkeeping and ball control so far. Hope they keep up this pressure!
after poisoning the world
they now intend to eat it
the outcome should be obvious
but somehow
isn’t
in their land unkind
all open giving hands are deemed
a heresy
while love
is only plausible
when bought
and tax
deductible
and everywhere
the silent singing truth
is bound

I got my shipment of tree seedlings from the Virginia Dep’t of Forestry yesterday! Virginia pines, loblollies, serviceberries, and button bushes are going to be great additions to our little ecosystem.
I’m taking my time with placement. A perennial in the wrong spot can be transplanted, but a tree with max height of 70+ is a different story.
STUDY: An additional 20 minutes of commuting each day has on average the equivalent effect on job satisfaction as a 19% reduction in income, with longer commute times having a more negative impact on women’s job satisfaction than men’s. Via @WhatWorksWB

Instead of just listing a bunch of Black accomplishments to try to counter that lie, I want us to look at the language that US folk use to describe discoveries or inventions. It's dripping with racism and white centering.
Non-white people are invisible. They don't even count. When we say "discovered," we really mean discovered "for white people." This is baked into our language.
This "I only see white people" impacts people of all other races, but anti-Black racism is most egregious.

#Rewilding doesn't have to be big projects. Microrewilding is an option with smaller urban spaces. Insects & birds will thank you. https://www.resilience.org/stories/2023-01-31/urban-microrewilding-projects-provide-a-lifeline-for-nature/
Hi! If you're promoting car-reduced/more walkable areas in cities, or any designs/research around that, can you please consider if what you're posting is accessible?
Because I don't think I've seen this *month* someone post anything on walkable cities that I thought could be used safely by someone in a wheelchair. Anything. That's how bad it is. And likely we'll all end up needing a mobility aid at some point in our lives, so why not design for our own futures?

Imagine if every city, county, state, provincial, and national government on Earth would make a serious and urgent effort to achieve the outcome shown here.
We're very, very far away from that today — especially in the US — but it's possible!
@dramypsyd someone needs to do this!

Reminder that nonviolence is not the same thing as just not being violent. It is an active form of resistance, intervention, and capacity-building. 🖤✊
“If peace means a willingness to be exploited economically, dominated politically, humiliated and segregated, I don’t want peace. If peace means being complacently adjusted to a deadening status quo, I don’t want peace. …. Peace is not simply the absence of conflict, but the existence of justice for all people.” -Martin Luther King Jr.
If you asked me, “should we try to make it so that everyone has roughly equal wealth?” I’d say no.
If you asked me, “should we try to make it so that everyone has roughly equal power?” I’d say yes.
So now I’m just stuck in the tension between my two answers. 😬
@ClimateHuman Maybe these efforts won’t have a direct effect on global avg temp rise. But I think they “matter” as much as one little human life matters, regardless of the ultimate fate of humanity at large, and of the planet. In other words, I feel like they matter a lot and should be encouraged as strongly as possible?
Global temperature anomaly 1880 - 2022 per just released NOAA data.
2022 was the 6th hottest year on record. Only one of the top 20 hottest years occurred before the turn of the century (1998, which is 13th). Only 3 years this century were outside the 20 hottest years.
The most recent month that was below the 20th Century average was 1974. The most recent individual month that was below average was December 1984.
Hello toot friends, I bring #antiLawn memes.
I'm hoping to radicalise you all against the boring monoculture lawn and turn you into biodiversity defenders.
Never forget, a 13-year study of a dozen cities found that protected bike-lanes led to a drastic decline in fatalities for all road users.
ALL ROAD USERS.
And painted bike-lanes? No safety improvement at all. As for sharrows, it’s safer to NOT have them.
