Celebrating the anniversary of the first airplane to ever fly at twice the speed of sound: the Douglas D-558-2 Skyrocket, piloted by Scott Crossfield, achieved Mach 2 on 20 November 1953. The plane is now on display at the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum in Washington D.C.

The Museum of Portable Sound is located in Southsea, Portsmouth, UK. We're a small independent #museum dedicated to the collection, preservation, and exhibition of #sounds (preferably non-musical) as museum objects.

We've been exhibiting our Permanent Collection of Sounds on a single iPhone 4S for more than seven years. Our sounds aren't available on a website, and there's no app to download – but we will play you our sounds online via video chat if you book an Online Visit with us!

We're hoping to meet new folks in the #SoundStudies and #MuseumStudies fields as well as people in the the #DigitalHumanities here – and yes, we're part of the Great Twitter Migration of November 2022.
