The web is broken, IMHO

So there is a (IMHO) shady market out there that gives app developers on iOS, Android, MacOS and Windows money for including a library that sells users network bandwidth. Infatica [1] is just one example, there are many more.

I am 99% sure that these companies cause what effectively are DDoS attacks that many webmasters have to deal with since months. This business model should simply not exist. Apple, Microsoft and Google should act.

How does the monetization work?

We connect your users’ IP addresses to the Infatica peer-to-business network, which allows companies to access web data to build price aggregation platforms, perform search engine optimization, create brand protection and marketing strategies, conduct academic research, produce uptime and performance services, ensure corporate data protection, and more.

@aesdeef any brewing-related problem will result in a panic though.
Better handle those Results better.

@abcdw @dragon0 interesting...
Was trying to stick with chicken, but might give it a look.
Thanks!

@tuxmain
Hahaha.
I've also been making my way through the SICP. So, using the AoC this year as a way to internalise the concepts.

@litchipi it was actually by editor for a bit.
But the vim motions are just too hard for me to give up.
I have them on other programs as well. So the constant muscle memory was hard to overcome.

@dragon0

Using lazyvim with #conjure. But unfortunately the #scheme experience is not as polished as other languages.

Surprisingly, #Emacs was pretty much comparable. Which I was not expecting. Since it has a reputation for being a better editor for #lisp-like languages.

I don't know if it's just me that didn't configure it correctly, or the scheme tooling is just not as good.

Thinking about doing #adventofcode this year with chicken #scheme.
#rust is just too fast. I end up taking the easy way out by brute forcing everything.

Any tips on getting a good dev environment going? I've tried both doom #emacs and #neovim. But wasn't able to get a debugger/lsp working quite yet.
Just played around with the repl (which I guess might be the point).

Started to make my way through the "Structure and Interpretation of Computer Programs".

Spent more time than what I'd like to admit choosing the right #scheme and setting up #neovim with #conjure.
Only solved a few simple exercises, but I can see how flinging procedures around could be fun.

@rsdio we are all cultists on this blessed day.

2024-10-25

@rsdio @mo8it why should I trust a vegan's ability to spot a cult?

2024-10-21

@hobbsc that's unfortunate.
Didn't know about syncthing-fork though. Thanks for the tip!

It's incredible how long Magic Wormhole has been around, and I've only recently had a chance to play with it.

If you have large files that you'd like to send across 2 devices, this makes it dead simple to do.

I think exa is currently unmaintained, and people are moving away to eza.

@zakatak
I find it much easier to setup/manager with ansible and docker containers.

> Syntax is very confusing for no reason.

This comment alone (followed by your examples) tells me you don't understand what problems Rust is trying to solve.
