Periodic reminder: The only way to write good code is to write tons of shitty code first. Feeling shame about bad code stops you from getting to good code.

Happy Imbolc the first Celtic festival of spring, wherever the Irish goddess and later saint trod, snowdrops flowered in her wake.
It’s also late summer in the southern hemisphere so happy Lugh or harvest to you 😊.

I have created a webpage that documents all my receipts and provides a detailed timeline of the events related to the British Museum's use of my translations of Chinese feminist Qiu Jin's poetry without permission, credit, or pay earlier this year.

Please spread it widely to help me combat gaslighting and disinformation. Please always point folks to this webpage when discussing the incident.

It’s hard not to say “AI” when everybody else does too, but technically calling it AI is buying into the marketing. There is no intelligence there, and it’s not going to become sentient. It’s just statistics, and the danger they pose is primarily through the false sense of skill or fitness for purpose that people ascribe to them.

Hello again my fellow neuroscientists. There is a master's student formerly in our lab who is looking for a lab tech/research tech job doing computational work in songbirds, but looking for really any job in a lab, interested in wetlab experience but can also do ML and theoretical work, comes from an EE/neuro background - does anyone have any leads/know where jobs are being posted/shared nowadays? boosts and dms welcome!

"In this brief review, we present and summarize the data describing how newly described enhancers located within the large V gene portion of Igκ and Igh loci work as a higher-order mechanism for the regulation of the Ab repertoire formation by regulating chromatin interactions and epigenetic milieu, which in turn alter the 3D chromatin topology of the loci."

Had a run-in with a farmer this morning while walking on open access land and it's really wound me up. Apparently, I was not permitted to access said land through an open gate directly from a public highway and should instead have used another gate ~1km away. I cannot find any legislation dealing with actually accessing access land, tho' the Ramblers Assn. say you can even climb walls to get in. 🤷‍♂️
Anyone know the CROW Act for #England well enough to pass comment? #walking #hiking #Right2Roam
