For the past week, I've been so angry and disappointed in the Linux community for being quiet in regards to any kind of celebration to advancing accessibility, but suddenly becoming vocal and supportive when privileged people start writing about how bad accessibility on Linux is while portraying contributors as the devils who don't care about anybody.
I'm so exhausted. I'm so demotivated. The Linux community really doesn't care about accessibility on Linux. No wonder accessibility on Linux sucks. No one wants to work on it because they keep getting bullied and pressured.

Hey! Our paper about the ECS pattern was accepted to OOPSLA/Splash2025! Thank you to my co-authors: @Twisol, @jmct, and @lindsey!
We formalized the ECS pattern, used the formalism to prove when (concurrent) ECS programs are deterministic despite scheduler-nondeterminism, and then showed that prominent existing frameworks disallow lots of ECS programs that *would* be deterministic.
A draft of "Exploring the Theory and Practice of Concurrency in the ECS Pattern" is at https://curious.software/plr/static/2025-03_ecs-conc-theory-practice.pdf

@sortius 2/2 I actually don't even know why (of the superpowers) the U.S. relationship takes precedent over the relationship with China (let alone things like Pacific friends that makes more sense to have close progressive relationships with). Like idk what the calculus is there. Maybe it's just considered too much work to adjust the relationship from what it is? It would be cool if decision making like this was more transparent; as it is now, citizens are left so estranged from the state dep..
@sortius 1/2: it feels like currently any attempt would be like trying move the moon and earth xD but it is technically better than doing nothing. I don't even know who I'd contact, it seems like such a behemoth thing to decouple the Australian government with Microsoft—and then some for U.S. tech general. I also don't imagine I'm exactly tenured enough to justify myself being in this newly forged position too. But also that doesn't stop others in this job market, so maybe it shouldn't stop me.
@franklinlopez mesh networks would be very hard for rural though right? what would be the alternative for ppl who usually rely on satellite?
“collectively, because that makes them better. We invest in infrastructure when it’s roads and bridges. We need to find out how to do this in the digital world. The blueprint we’re trying to create is like a new government muscle: how can we take care of this in a way that is sustainable, secure, supports our values, & then share it? It doesn’t help if just one of us doing it, we need to do that collectively. This is why it’s great that we’re talking about this at the UN…”
if the world was a little bit better I'd be applying for jobs with the Australian Government to do audits of open source codebases for government adoption and sponsorship. #auspol? hehehe
@WhoDisturbsMySlumber @aud there are those enterprise windows things, like Windows 10/11 IoT Enterprise LTSC .. if I understand right they don't have copilot or any other unnecessary stuff like that because apparently enterprise deserves better than the rest of us lol. They're floating around :)
🌟 Exciting News in Digital Freedom! 🌟
Starting next month, Denmark's Minister of Digitization, Caroline Stage, plans to phase out Microsoft and other tech giants' programs within her ministry. This bold move aims to reduce reliance on U.S.-based tech companies and embrace open-source alternatives.
Half of the ministry's employees will transition to a new computer system, replacing Windows with open-source solutions. Specifically, they will adopt LibreOffice, a free and open-source office suite, as an alternative to Microsoft's Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
"I want to take the lead and try it out. When the opportunity presented itself, it would be crazy not to seize it. I am very much looking forward to seeing how it works in practice," says Minister Stage.
This initiative aligns with Denmark's broader strategy to achieve digital sovereignty and reduce dependence on large tech corporations. The goal is for the entire ministry to be free of Microsoft by the fall. However, if the transition faces significant challenges, there is flexibility to revert temporarily.
The push for digital sovereignty is gaining momentum, especially in light of current global dynamics and concerns over data protection. Political parties like the Red-Green Alliance and the Alternative have also voiced support for reducing ties with American tech giants.
Let's celebrate this shift towards freedom, collaboration, and innovation in the tech landscape! 🎉

@azonenberg @debby it'd be awesome if they did an open source grant program in the interest of a teams replacement 😊
One last push:
The @peertube app campaign is just €7000 away from it's €55,000 target, and 2 days to go. Surely there are #fedizens who may not have seen this already? If they make the €55,000 target I promise to write a peertube channel into my next grant proposal, AND I'll post some better quality videos of our Greenland and #Antarctic research over the coming weeks...
Go!

Ruth_Mottram - Apropos @peertube the french developer collective @Framasoft are currently trying to raise the (for #bigTech derisory) amount of EUR 75,000 to develop the opensource #fediverse competitor app to Youtube. Maybe chuck 'em a few euros if you think it useful?

@MrAndrewD @ewen I like the shares idea :3
@IngaLovinde that's such a satisfying thing to realise hehehe
Meanwhile, in the industrial security space:
@CalcProgrammer1 I wish I could use it, but Huawei shut down their bootloader codes service thing for the p20 😑
