At some point the rate of SpaceX exploding and crashing things is going to exceed my rate of giving lectures about space junk. But not quite yet... guess I know what to add to my lecture for tomorrow.

@TomasHradcky @Daojoan i have a substack filter set up. it’s called “cuz it’s ran by nazis”. just add the main domain and *.substack.*

it’s harder to do with people masking with their own domains, but if y’all know of anybody doing so, just spread the word.

@smallcircles someone could start selling an all-in-one appliance, like a WiFi router with a built-in mail server, ActivityPub server, XMPP server, #Forgejo server, and #Drupal server all rolled into one. Then instead of recommending people “roll their own,” you could recommend people just buy this device, and use it to connect to #ActivityPub, #XMPP, and publish their own blog with the built-in Drupal server, and so on.

Now is not the time for the scientific community to self-censor. We need to all unite together and get behind grassroots efforts like #standupforscience if we are to effectively overcome the attacks on science!

“In 2017 almost every scientific society in existence formally endorsed the March for Science. It appears to me that scientific societies are much more reluctant to throw their official support behind today’s protests,” said Lucky Tran, a science communicator who helped organize the 2017 march. “I understand that scientific institutions are being cautious because this time they are more directly targeted, however I am worried about them preemptively self-censoring, which could be very damaging in the long-term.”

I have a Tory MP. If all Green voters voted Labour instead, I would've had a Labour MP. But... If all Labour voters voted Green instead, I'd have a Green MP!

Cell-site simulators (CSS, also known as Stingrays or IMSI catchers) are devices that masquerade as legitimate cell-phone towers, tricking phones within a certain radius into connecting to the device rather than a tower. Our new tool, Rayhunter, can help you find them. eff.org/deeplinks/2025/03/meet

@llamasoft_ox when you're young you see old people dying of old people things but eventually people younger than you start dying of old people things and it can't be because they are old it must be a terrible new trend. :)

hey hi do I know anyone who's big into historical swordfighting, I have a practical question for a scene in a book

I got called to come to my son's school to help change his insulin pod. I got there to discover that the app on his phone had thrown a memory corruption error and wiped out all of his insulin dosage settings

Fortunately, I have been keeping a copy of those settings in a self-hosted git repository, mostly so that I could look through the git history and see how the numbers change over time. This helps me understand the impacts that some of these changes are having

So there I am in his school's office on my phone reading a CSV off of my @forgejo instance and plugging all of his dosage settings back into the app on his phone

We use these tools to store our source code. But here I am using it for the code that keeps my son alive.

As it's I thought I'd mention I've written 2 books. Having just checked, Discovering Scarfolk seems to have gone out of print*. The Annual's still in print. Book 3? Rights available if interested. I've also written a novel, yet to find a publisher, with 2 new novels on the go.

*Just before it would have started, finally, to pay out royalty payments.

Don't write books.
