In the autumn of 1883, a paper in the nation's capital reported that "an Iowa woman has spent 7 years embroidering the solar system on a quilt" — to teach astronomy in an era when women could not attend college. Her story: t.co/flA3OGGZQZ #WomensHistoryMonth

My son liked to post his pixelart on Pixel Studio's Pixel Network and apparently the dev just changed the terms and conditions so that the art you publish can become part of a training dataset for a new AI pixel-art generation app. You can’t even opt-out if you’re using the mobile app. They also started allowing AI art to be posted.

My son is so demotivated by this.

That's how you kill creativity. And I really hope your business too.

So, now its the 'wealthy boomers' who are going to help out the #Tories, thinks Phillip Inman.

Well, I'm one 'comfortable' retired #boomer, who has never voted for those #Toryscum & never will....

The reading off of the advantages flowing to baby boomers (still) & their likely voting patterns feels like rather lazy materialism.

Lets stop blaming the boomers & say what's really the problem: the mendacious, corrosive right wing media's grip on political debate(s)!

Greta Thunberg says:

"As much as I hate to admit it, Beyoncé was wrong. It is *not* girls who run the world. It is run by politicians, corporations, and financial interests — mainly represented by white, privileged, middle-aged, straight cis-men. And it turns out most of these are terribly ill-suited for the job. This may not come as a big surprise. After all, the purpose of a company is not to save the world — it is to make a profit, as much profit as it possibly can in order to keep shareholders and market interests happy."

To find a point in history at which everyone who still has living descendants is the ancestor of literally everyone on earth, you have to go back no farther than a few millennia.

On how we're all much more closely related than you think.

Remember everyone, when a job is so low paid the government has to top it up via benefits, it's a direct subsidy from taxpayers to shareholders, and from the poor to the rich.

Quote from Danny Dyer which says "People bang on about benefit culture, all that.
There are piss-takers, no one doubts that but I know plenty of people on benefits who work hard, it's just they don't get paid enough to cover the basics.
Now you can say "Get off your arse & get a better job." All right, say everyone does that. Whose gonna actually do the shitty jobs then? If you're working 40 hours a week and can't cover the bills, that aint your fault. It's the fault of the slags paying you. So if you have to claim benefits then claim 'em & don't feel bad about it. It's not you that is actually getting the benefit anyway, it's your employer. They pay you shit all & expect the State to pick up the tab."

Viewpoint:

The NHS

“I love the NHS because we pay for it with our taxes, and because the care we receive is the same whether we’ve paid a million pounds or nothing. If we want to save the NHS, we need to celebrate tax. We need to think of it not as money the Government steals from us, but as our contribution to a safe and just and healthy society. It’s thanks to the NHS that my wife and our youngest son are still alive. But the true worth of the NHS is not that it saved my family. It is that it would make the same effort for every family, even if that family were destitute. The true worth of the NHS is that those of us who are lucky enough to pay tax can go to sleep at night, knowing that we have helped make that radical kindness possible.”

"So that's where we are. Sunak is talking tough. But peer a little deeper and he is fucked in nearly every way there is for a man to be fucked: legally, logically, practically, legislatively, politically and constitutionally. All these avenues are blocked off. It's checkmate."
