“The ideal subject of totalitarian rule is not the convinced Nazi or the convinced communist, but people for whom the distinction between fact and fiction… and the distinction between true and false… no longer exist.”

What can a playwright-turned-president and a novelist in exile teach us about power, truth, and resistance?

Václav Havel’s The Power of the Powerless offers a bold vision of how ordinary people can resist authoritarianism- and Milan Kundera helps us see its limits and complexities.

Hannah Arendt discussed a new type of government, totalitarianism, in detail. She warned that loneliness can lead to totalitarianism, a government with a ruling ideology that uses terror to accelerate its ideological goals. She warned that the potential for totalitarianism still exists today.

Plato’s Political Philosophy in a Nutshell

Plato envisioned a just society where harmony prevails through a structured class system: rulers (philosopher-kings), auxiliaries (warriors), and producers (farmers, artisans). Each class performs its role, guided by the principle of justice.

He critiqued democracy, fearing it could lead to tyranny, and proposed a merit-based system led by the wise.
