I'm just devastated. I'm as happy as the next person to be able to call someone if I'm in trouble (it was the only option when I was a victim of domestic abuse). But goddamn it all to hell why do they have to be so trigger-happy?? I'm really feeling for Sr. Airman Fortson's mama right now. She didn't even get to see him alive one last time.
Right before Mother's Day too. Damn.
This one hits close to home because my father was a Senior Airman when he left the U.S. Airforce. Roger Fortson was also only 2 years older than my own son is now.
Thank you for your service Mr. Fortson. You did not deserve this ignominious end. You deserved a life, a future. You deserved so much more than this.

One key truth everyone is missing: This is a county jail. The majority of them are in there, not yet convicted of any crime, but they are in an environment that is arguably worse than a state prison. Do away with pre-trial, pre-sentencing incarceration. And don't use jails as substitutes for mental institutions, rehabs, or homeless shelters.
Change the conditions - living & working & do it now... or let any prisoner not accused of violence against another person out, Out now! Ridiculous conditions that penalize the poor & those without surety. 70%+ on remand. Rich &/or established & you will not be in jail. It is an unfair system and it needs eliminated as it is. 2020 (COVID) prisoners sent to hotels & there was only one breech in months!
