Adopting an adult cat from an animal shelter is a bit like renting a RPG from Blockbuster for the weekend and choosing to continue the previous save file instead of starting a new one. I am leaping into an adventure that's already underway... and I do not know a ton about what has already happened.

It's been about two years, and I still do not understand a good 2/3 of the things you do, you weird weird cat. I love you, Gracie.

I woke up wondering how this yarn ended up in bed with me a couple times. Sure it's cute now but it might not be as funny when she gets as big as the street cats that look like her relatives and she starts catching mice and rats. Over the winter an impressive rat was gnawing on a big sweet potato. Luckily the gnawed sweet potato was noticeable up on a little table so we knew to put sticky traps around the basket of Satsuma potatoes. The rat managed to rip itself off the sticky trap but had so much sticky goo attached by the time it hid the floor that it ended up stuck to the floor. Hopefully Milky(Way) will save us the trouble of dealing with traps but it would be nice to avoid the trouble of waking up with gifted prey too though..

Cute cat still needs a home.

Little by little we're getting resigned in case we have to keep it alive, and inside, in a way that Milky Way (not Dexter) won't help the other feral cats wreck the ecology... Lots of fun folding newspapers to become toys that the cat swats around and chases and claws and bites, good practice for killing chicks and other birds I guess... We're getting the cat used to mid-sized chicks just in case we can't find someone to adopt the cute little predator. Would be great if the cat stayed around just ate the mice we've gotten every year since we started raising chickens. A cat eating them would be much better than dealing with them on those awful sticky sheet traps...

This kitten still needs a home. We're starting to get resigned to the idea that we'll have to figure out how to raise the cue member of the species-killing invasive species here: coming up with ideas to convert the stove-wood apple-boxes into a 3-story cat-cage for the kitten then slaps some DIY wood together later with chicken wire for a large cat cage. It would be better if a cat person that needs a cat would come over and fall in love with Dexter (er... Milky Way)... We did start getting Maron The Shiba and MilkyWay the Kitten used to each other.. But it's been to rainy and wet to run out and get a Silky for chicken-acclimation... And hopefully someone will take the little predator off our hands..

Though during the river walk I was thinking I should learn to catch some of the big fish and things for pet food. It would cut down on the packaging and shopping waste (and money) for the feed.

Bringing out my maternal instincts and it's even worse for Mio... But, Maron is overly enthusiastic about wanting to play with (or dine on?) the little potential bird-killer... It's hard to imagine them in the car together for Vet. visits and such...

If someone doesn't agree to adopt this kitten we might become cat people. Guests and Mio found this kitten in our carport (storage space) and now we're stuck with a budding bird killer. A friend ran over with a nice cage, kitty litter, food, and milk... All the stuff needed to keep the cat alive indoors....
