What's that? Another blog post!?
This is a short one on how to "open links in HTML mails with aerc".

Another day, another blog post: Outlook mails on the terminal
https://schafe-sind-bessere-rasenmaeher.de/tech/outlook-mails-on-the-terminal/
I'm forced to use Office 365 and Outlook for work and now that I've finally left the Windows world behind me, I'm looking for creative ways to get around the rest of the bullshit.
Here's me figuring out how to receive and send work mails in a terminal app, without having to resort to social engineering. 😅
The most productive I've been these 3 days, while sipping on rum, getting oauth2 working for my barely used Hotmail IDs, all for aerc!
In #aerc, can I change the color of the thread arrows?
These things:
great sunday... add a script to #niri to record screencast with #wfrecorder and made #aerc my main mail-client.
Setting up #aerc
@bjarkess
Trying #aerc.
First impressions: It feels _way_ snappier and easier to use than (Neo)Mutt ever did, but its default color scheme sucks.
Like, not just aesthetically: pop-up windows, tab lists and status bars not having a background color is confusing as hell.
Posted this on #usenet #hispagatos.ayuda newsgroup but going to share here since I logged in to do some admin stuff, this is a #howto to get working together #dstask #calcure and #aerc https://man.sr.ht/~rek2/Hispagatos-wiki/software/Sync-dstask-2-calcure.md#syncing-dstask-with-calcure #happyHacking #HackerCulture #hispagatos #TelegramIsShit
OK, after a detour experimenting with #HaikuOS and dealing with small things like buying a house, I'm back on my bullshit. #DOSBox is working so I can play some games, #MOO2 being a favorite . The #lemmy clients I've found are only mediocre, and getting a #Mastodon client to work with this account has prevent to be a bit tricky for security reasons, but I'll probably knock that out today. Also, #aerc seems like a friendlier email client, so I'm giving it a try.
So, I love #Thunderbird, but it bogs down my poor old #Linux laptop. I thought I would try a few terminal email clients. Here is how it went:
* #Alpine (new Pine): Connecting to Gmail was hard - even when I had set up application-specific passwords for 2FA. Had to manually edit SMTP settings in .pinerc
* #NeoMutt (new Mutt): required serious manual config to get the sidebar showing and even then CTRL-O would not switch email folders for me
* #aerc: A joy. Sidebar by default. Working key commands. Nice colon menu for commands. Was able to set up multiple gmail accounts with application-specific passwords.
When using aerc and dealing with multiple attached documents, I am only presented with the mimetype of document when I want to open one of them (first picture). If I have multiple documents of the same mimetype, it is sometimes hard to know which document I am about to open. Is there a way to configure aerc to display the file name (like it does at the bottom of the email - second picture)? Boost welcome. #aerc #email
Trying out #aerc and I want to like it (it has some fancy feature like embedded terminal etc) but there are some weird behaviours that don’t seem quite right. Sorting the way I want seems impossible (whether I do `sort date` or `sort -r date` it always appears to be reverse-chronological, not chronological; `sort from -r date`seems close to what I want but is inexplicable); and threads get reorganised on every delete so if I read through a thread and delete messages as I go, it might suddenly decide that the next message is actually one from a different thread.
I used #mutt back in the day and I see #neomutt has imap support now, so I’ll be giving that a try next.
