Not all designs make the cut.
Here's a rough sketch of a reimagined "sea monkey" aquatic alien that didn't pass muster.

I may revisit the character in time and try a different approach. 🤔

Although this design didn't win the overall vote, @grobi made a compelling case for them.

In honour of that, I went ahead and made a full scale sketch of them as well. 😊
Side note - this was the sketch Ronan was sitting on prior. 😹

The design concept has shifted slightly since I last posted the sketch in progress. In particular, I wanted to try a different eye style as well as heighten the contrast of the scale textures to emphasize the scarring damage to the face and neck.
