#Algorithim

Interesting thought from Keven Munger:
Uber makes it harder to sustain the myth of “the algorithm.” ...
The Uber recommendation algorithm works better when there are more Uber drivers, near you and willing to accept the lowest wage possible.
Improvements to the Uber recommendation algorithm therefore require interactions with systems external to the app itself: lobbying governments, dealing with lawsuits from disabled riders, breaking drivers’ unions, and even pushing for the development of cars without human drivers.

@helgek @MattFerrel @atomicpoet @eleventyone @helge A great #thread. Aye, I always #boost #like & #favourite Understood that's one of the inputs into any #sorting# #algorithim. If I've done the above you that's a +ve, if not then just walking on by. Bookmarking is a double ++ in my book. I will continue with my SOP (Standard Operating Procedure)

@emptywheel how exactly does the #algorithim works? I am new here and right now I am seeing contents from all over the place, understandably not curated (yet?). Is it random by design or I have to actively search for and interact with content I'm more interested in?

I feel like the most different part of #mastodon is creating and account. As you have no idea where to go as #twitterrefugee but after that posting does feel kinda similar to #twitter

Except that you need to use a lot of #hashtags in your posts to make them visible. As I understood there is no #algorithim

Coming on #Mastodon is like a big digital detox.

Only when you use this place for a bit do you realise the #algorithim that was pushed on you in the other place. Suffocating.

This is like fresh air.

Analogy

Other place: Like McDonalds: big, everywhere, always pushing stuff on you that is convenient and you think you like but is actually bad for you.

Here: Like a independent local family deli. With lovely sliced ham.

Analogy ends.
