So I met with the #Altadena library "Innovations librarian" who runs the "Fab Lab" where you can 3D print or sew or inkjet print or do other crafty things. We hit it off immediately and have planned out a series of tech access tech freedom events. They'll start with two main themes based on the issues they see often at the library. Password management, and file management/backup/transfer. It sounds like we will give out some USB sticks, and may set up a laptop donation bin where we can then

Well i did it, I put in a request for #Altadena library to consider hosting my tech access events. Installing Linux on systems, distributing donated hardware, installing OpenWrt, helping people disconnect from stalkers and abusers. Disconnect from surveillance platforms, and educating people about how tech works are all topics I mentioned. When it came to the end of the form they asked how it aligned with their core values which they call out as Equity, Innovation, and Empathy, which it

Good Morning from #Pasadena. Resumed our walks in #Altadena this week. Our first walk was great; where we went there had been virtually no damage. But that wasn't the case of our latest walk.

This area was a beautiful neighborhood full of amazing old houses and trees. At least 1/2 of those old houses seem to be gone, at first sight. But it's hard to tell with so many trucks everywhere.

Not feasible driving around for a look and I stay on the beaten track away from trucks and bulldozers to avoid too much toxic dust, especially with Moses.

The image shows a severely damaged building, likely a house, with significant fire damage. The structure is mostly white, with large areas of blackened walls and charred windows, indicating extensive fire damage. The building's facade is partially intact, with visible structural elements like arches and columns. The address number "1375" is visible on the front wall. The surrounding area includes a well-maintained lawn with various plants and a concrete pathway leading to the entrance. In the background, there are trees and mountains, suggesting a suburban or rural setting. The sky is clear and blue, indicating a sunny day. The scene conveys the aftermath of a fire, with some debris scattered on the ground.

"What we didn't realize at first was that many homes, particularly in Altadena's historic Black community, were passed down within families, often, without proper title transfers. The lack of proper documentation could deny families their generational wealth and disqualify homeowners from assistance programs, further delaying their ability to recover and rebuild. This legislation is desperately needed to ensure communities like Altadena can maintain their identity and culture."

Via CA State Senator Sasha Renee Perez: "The Generational Homeownership Protection Act: SB 293 passed the Senate Revenue and Taxation Committee with unanimous, bipartisan support. This bill would allow L.A. County homeowners impacted by the wildfires to bring their property records up to date without penalty. We know Altadena suffered the worst of the devastation from the Eaton Fire that destroyed nearly 10,000 structures."

This includes, among other steps, setting aside 500 Youth @ Workpositions next fiscal year to employ youth impacted by the Eaton Fire, establishing a satellite America’s Job Center of California (AJCC) in Altadena to connect residents with employment resources and job placement assistance, and directing the L.A. County Development Authority to create a small business loan program to assist businesses that survived the fire.
