I guess I'll be the lone voice in the crowd saying that I thought the McDonald's Xmas #GenAI ad was mildly amusing.
Not that I want MORE like it. I even question the idea of even putting it out as an actual ad, instead of just some fun social media thing.
But as a dumb one-off novelty: it's harmless.
I know: boo, hiss, etc. As usual the anti-AI crowd violently overreacts, turning an ill-advised, semi-creative shitpost into an affront to God.
But the anger masks the real issue: many are rightfully concerned about their ongoing employment as corporations turn to automating their jobs away (a feeling I understand all too well).
But you'd never know that because the majority of them are too busy lashing out, slinging the word "slop" around, and generally feeling self-righteous as they high five the rest of the clique, instead of directly engaging the issues.
So, once again, I find myself in agreement that there's some very important, actual existential concerns underlying all of this, while rejecting the obnoxious mob mentality trying poorly to express them.
