Thinking of switching to Apple's new Passwords app? It merges iCloud Keychain but importing existing passwords currently needs a Mac & a .csv. Heads up: it only handles logins for now & imports can be glitchy. Keep your old manager close.

app security issues zero is the new inbox zero.

Also, why can't third party password managers autofill verification codes yet? Having to switch apps to copy/paste codes _almost_ defeats the purpose of autofill entirely.

Is that something Apple still reserves for themselves? Or is there some new iOS 18 entitlement that others haven't adopted yet?

Now, if only I could keep Apple’s passwords app enabled for autofill without it bugging me to save every password I submit that was autofilled by a different app …

So far, one of the most underrated (aka. no one has mentioned it from what I can see), but randomly useful is that you can now allow password autofills from up to 3 different apps at once.

And the best part, Apple's own Passwords app doesn't have to be one of them, so no more special privilege 🎉

Hope that the new Apple Passwords app will get an official extension for Firefox Desktop.

I highly doubt, but one can dream

Until then, I'll keep using Bitwarden

Given rumours that Apple will release a Passwords app this year, I decided to try exporting my vault from to test the current state of . Here’s a few things I’ve discovered that will make it hard for me to move:

- Logins are required to have a website URL and username, so over 100 of my logins didn’t import that I now have to manually fix

- No support for other credential types like Wi-Fi, Identities, Passports, License Keys etc.

- No secure attachments

Just finished moving around 300 passwords out of #1Password. The non-password stuff now mostly lives in shared folders in #AppleNotes and #iCloudDrive. #ApplePasswords being an app wasn't really on my radar, but I can appreciate fewer clicks to get to those resources, especially if someone has to manually retrieve MFA codes for non-#Safari browsers; hopefully third-party browser support is the real killer feature.

I should add though that I do still recommend #1Password's service if that is what you are looking for. But I'm a bit jaded that local vaults were removed as an option and you are forced into continuous pay-to-play model to use the program on their servers.

Since I'm 95% in the #Apple ecosystem and the other 5% is covered by the #ApplePasswords plugin for a few select #Windows browsers, the decision to finally try it out happened. And, aside from a couple of minor quirks, it works wonderfully.
