After the BMW 02 range was replaced by the first-generation E21 3-Series, the coachbuilder Karosserie Baur produced an open-topped variant of the new car, the TopCabriolet, which featured a similar Targa-style roof to later versions of the previous 02 convertible. I saw this one at Techno Classica in 2013. This particular branch of the Neue Klasse/02 family tree went on to feature generations of 3-Series, and later 4-Series, convertible models.
Today, another branch off the 02 and by extension the Neue Klasse section of the BMW family tree, the 02 convertible, seen here in closed and open states. Note that these early cars are badged as 1600s rather than 1602s. The convertible 02, introduced in 1967, was the work of coach-builders Baur. I saw the closed car at Techno Classica Essen in 2013, and the open car at Retro Classics in Stuttgart in 2016.

The company is most famous for the CD and SC coupés based on the #Opel Diplomat and Senator respectively, but also had a role in creating the Aero, a Targa-style convertible conversion of the smaller Kadett C carried out by the coachbuilder #Baur. Aeros were generally badged as normal Opels but the last ten were made as Bitter ‘Super Aero’ specials with tuned engines, flared wheel arches and other refinements.
