This striking 97-foot plunge over a basalt cliff captures the essence of the region’s rugged natural beauty and makes for a perfect midday photography stop or family-friendly hike.

Fed by Tumalo Creek, the falls thunder down into a rocky canyon surrounded by towering evergreens. In autumn, the scene is kissed with the warm glow of seasonal change—subtle hints of gold and amber leaves contrast beautifully with the deep greens of the forest. While the high desert landscape is typically dominated by evergreens, the few deciduous trees and shrubs near the creek light up just enough to add a touch of fall magic.

Photographing Tumalo Falls around midday can be surprisingly rewarding. The sun, now high enough to illuminate the canyon fully, enhances the clarity of the water as it pours over the cliff.
