#BitwigStudio

2026-02-08

This is a test of a possible walk-through style video showcasing what my #ShermanikFilterbank for #BitwigStudio is able to do. In this instance I've made a quick ramble through using it without gates or triggers (pretty much as a twin peak filter), but with some LFO.

The video is also my first time using #KDenLive - it is totally usable, and I was able to fix a bug thanks to the excellent #KDE support side.

Mind your ears.

Anyone interested in using my #ShermanikFilterbank #BitwigStudio preset may also find that downloading a copy of the Sherman Filterbank manual may help them to better familiarise themselves with my preset.

A few features are missing (hardware wiring, the octave/quint, and tracking), and have added some features that I've written up.

Here's a little demo of my #ShermanikFilterbank as an effects send in #BitwigStudio where the bass and drums are being processed and the various controls are being automated, or performed. There's a bit of reverb added. This was made with v4.4.0 EX of my preset (I did not engage the extra filtration).

Here's a demo of the #BitwigStudio preset of my #ShermanikFilterbank where v4.2 is compared against v4.4 EX (current as of 6 Feb 2026). It's loud and screechy. It's also got flashing lights.

For #BoardsOfCanada fans out there, you might be interested in this gem from 1996 as 'liberated' by an interested party and made available for enjoying through YouTube. This is called "A Few Old Tunes" and apparently, as the story goes, an original cassette was purchased at great expense from a music store, and then digitised with the finest contemporary techniques.

This is one of those places where #qpwgraph could be employed to play YouTube directly into #BitwigStudio to allow one to bootleg their own local copy.

#LinuxAudio win. #qpwgraph making internal wiring possible is a sweet discovery - and means I can create a named input in #BitwigStudio and directly record out of Chrome.

This make SDR exploration recording direct to a track.

Or pretty much anything else!

The connections in qpwgraph need rebuilding if you close the tab, but this is trivial to do.

@mosgaard I found that with Linux Mint that adding the PipeWire-Jack utility via the Software Manager offered a bit of backwards compatibility so that I can run #BitwigStudio v4.0 along side later versions (I primarily develop presets in v4.0).

And my experience is that everything just works, and quite seamlessly.

I've got a #BitwigStudio preset that is inspired by #MutableInstruments #Blades. It seems a natural offshoot of my #ShermanikFilterbank to explore other #TwinPeakFilter types.

I hope to have some demos and a web page for this in the next few days.

It might fit well on the #BonkWave #SampleChallenge

I’m pleased to have had a good session of studio time today. It might be #BonkWave made in #BitwigStudio on #Linux.

This is how I am coping with recent events. Make #music. Made with #LinuxAudio tools in #BitwigStudio - it might be #BonkWave

It is most reassuring that I have been able to get my workflow back in place for #BitwigStudio for #Linux #ElectronicMusicProduction again.

It's been just over 3 months since I moved away from Windows and there were some moments where overwork at the brewery and holiday business fatigue had me worried that I had might not find my muse again.

I am pleased to report that #weird sounds are again flowing from my fingertips.

Is it #BonkWave or #NotBonkWave - time will tell and I want to finish it first so I don't want to spoil the surprise.

Who doesn't like #reverb on their tracks? I sure do. But what has frustrated me for the past 2 years of using #BitwigStudio is that the stock reverb device has felt not as smooth and silky, or easy to manipulate as I'd like. The Lexicon 224 sound is something to strive for, and those clever engineers found a way to make an incredible sound with not amazing spec digital audio (12-bit with a max frequency of 10,400Hz).

I think the secret sauce is the selective bands and delay times where you can have the the reverb swell into brightness or dwell into darkness with some simple tone controls.

I have found that if you stack two Bitwig Reverb devices in an FX-3 Multiband Device on the Low and Mid bands that you can get a really sweet sound. Here is my example with some Airwindows to round it out.

A new track is emerging.

Is it #BonkWave or #NotBonkWave? It's got #BlippooBox, #AccessVirus, and #weirdness. A holiday study of found sounds, tones and synthesised harmonies. #ElectronicMusic made in #Linux with #BitwigStudio with lots and lots of #AirwindowsConsolidated and #AirwindowsConsoleH for tone and character.
