I am smitten by the #AirwindowsConsolidated plugins. They add a really nice colour and character to my sound that I have been trying to find. #Tape #Tube #Saturation #SoundDesign all in #BitwigStudio on #Linux and sounding really good.

The sound sculpting possibilities for bass, drums, pads and more are blowing my mind.

I want to put it on everything. It also plays nicely with my #distortion explorations with my #ShermanikFilterbank preset.

Here's a little beat that I cooked up as I ponder the world.

Dry at the start, DubSub comes in first on the bass and then my Shermanik Filterbank is added by 00:33. Filterbank drops back at 01:10, and ramps to full intensity at 01:30.

There's MackEQ on the bass drum and the whole drum set is being run through Tube and VerbTiny. The whole mix is then run through Tube again with a Peak Limiter to keep things in check.

I’ll try again and see if *starting* with a manual install of #BitwigStudio v4.0 is the way to get this to work. Maybe. I hope.

I've been trying to find my muse. I've liked moving to #Linux for making #ElectronicMusic and there is something liberating in saying "I'll make it work with what I have, only what is it that I want to actually do?"

This apparently. Made in #BitwigStudio and lovingly using a source that is very dear to me as a backbone to arrange to, only with my own twist to it. We'll see where it goes - for the moment is it is good to be regaining some muscle memory for producing.

I bought myself a #BlackFriday special of the 2025 #SamplesFromMars items. I really like how these enthusiasts are using historic gear and are producing vinyl and tape #music archives to then resample and offer as part of their packs. There are some sweet sounds in there. They are fun for working with in #BitwigStudio for #ElectronicMusicProduction and possibly in the search for #BonkWave and #NotBonkWave sounds.

Are Bitwig Buchla Bongos #NotBonkWave? Here's a small FX Grid patch that I made in #BitwigStudio while being inspired by a #Buchla259 #ComplexOscillator - it's short, but I like it.

@mosgaard thank you for your kind words. I’ve written what I would have liked to refer to when I was new to this.

I now have a responsive workstation where I can explore #Linux driven #BonkWave and #NotBonkWave #ElectronicMusicProduction in #BitwigStudio.

And I use it for all my other needs too.

#LinuxAudio #BitwigStudio folk. I have updated my system a bit - gone is the the systemd service call (not working reliably) and it is now a simple executable script that I open into the terminal when I want to go into #music mode.

I have started working on some new tunes with this.

Mileage may vary, but you can follow my process on my webpage: ambientspace.com/technical-not

#LinuxAudio #BitwigStudio folk, I have installed and am attempting get the settings to be sticky for #rtcqs. The CPU Frequency Scaling set to performance and Simultaneous Multithreading set to disabled make the greatest positive difference to my system performance.

The one downside that I am encountering is to get all my settings to load at boot. There are some handy steps suggested by wiki.linuxaudio.org/wiki/syste (linked to from the rtcqs_gui app) and I have set up my own rt-audio-setup.service script. The recommended steps appear to create a recursive loop and I have commented this out.

I can see that the call to set the CPU Frequency Scaling is failing on boot (very brief 'FAILED' alert in red). The SMT is working though. How do I fix this?

Screenshots show the service script to run at boot and the script being called, and another showing the really sweet DSP Performance Graph when all this is working.

[I just found an error on writing this and will reboot and see if I fixed it]

Bash script to run at startup to set CPU Frequency Scaling to "Performance" (not working), and to turn off SMT (is working).Unit Service configuration that calls the bash script on boot.a very nice looking dependency graph showing very low CPU usage on a high-demand patch in Bitwig Studio.

#LinuxAudio #BitwigStudio folk. What are my options for reducing CPU demand when running a session? Setups which were very efficient under Windows are considerably more demand heavy in #Linux. I am assuming this is a result of my having yet to install a RT kernel, or finesse the audio settings for #PipeWire. Are there some primers or pointers towards resources that I can use to better tune the performance of my system?

Hat super geklappt! (Software: Helvum bzw. qpwgraph)

Ich brauch nochmal #FollowerPower #FediHelp :BoostOK: 😀

Was wir vorhaben:

Day 48 done. I am not thinking about work at all for the next 36 hours.

There will be #LinuxAudioProduction of #ElectronicMusic that may be #BonkWave or #NotBonkWave in #BitwigStudio.

And since it is #Caturday here is the late and amazing Ms Monster. ❤️‍🩹

The fabulous Abbie Tabby Tortie known as Ms Monster. She was weird and truly wonderful for the special 15 years we got to share together. She had the most strikingly silky fur.

#LinuxAudio journey update - Do I *need* to run the Low-Latency Kernel? I'm not sure that I do as I don't have an audio interface.

I've been updating my notes so that I can rebuild all of this without too much drama (if needed).

Today I got my sample libraries sorted out by setting the discs with media to be auto-mounted at login. I have a curious issue with #BitwigStudio v4.0 not wanting to load mp3 audio, but v5.3.13 and v6-beta-6 handle this just fine.

Feel free to have a look and follow along over at my website: ambientspace.com/technical-not

#LinuxAudio journey update. Switching #BitwigStudio v5.3.x and v6.b.x to use #OpenGL instead of #Vulkan for the UI acceleration results in much smoother and expected interactions with my various presets. (Type Ctl-Enter to open the commander and search for “advanced” and enable the setting to reveal the advanced graphics option in Settings.)

#VCVRack remains stubbornly not launching in standalone, but works admirably as a CLAP plugin.

This means I have a system that I can make #ElectronicMusic (possibly #BonkWave) under #LinuxMint.

41 days. That’s enough (more like 36 days too many). No heavy labour tomorrow. Gonna sleep in. Or maybe work on searching for #BonkWave in #BitwigStudio

2025-11-07

My #LinuxAudioProduction journey is being hampered by erratic GUI response in #BitwigStudio

I’m having issues with adjusting modulator knobs on #LinuxMint v22.2. They respond erratically.

Is this a #Wayland vs #X11 thing? I’ve got the most recent Nvidia drivers installed, FWIW.

Nearly vanilla install (updates, QuickEMU, Bitwig, VCVRack, and DaVinci Resolve being all that’s installed).

How can I get my modulators to be easier/smoother to control?

2025-11-07

I installed Pipewire-Jack, qpwgraph, QuickEMU and QuickGUI on my #LinuxMint test installation this morning.

All versions of #BitwigStudio now can play audio and other sources are able play concurrently now.

Next is to explore the possibilities of #VirtualMachines for cross platform interests.

So far, so good.
