#BootC

@axiomatisch @eu_os

I recommend you read blues.win/posts/joy-of-linux-t that poses the very relevant question: "what is a Linux distribution anyway"?

So if EU OS is a distribution by itself pretty much depends on the definition of distribution. I think the definition should be narrow and then #EU_OS should would not be a distribution.

Who wants #gentoo portage to be using an atomic model, with #ostree and/or #bootc underneath?

Podman Desktop is just so awesome. I'm going to create a bootable container disk image for AlmaLinux 9.5, which I will upload to netcup and install it on a VPS.

WOW I didn't realize I am already using and on my system.

Thanks

Now let's check the status of + ComposeFS...

You can thank `bootc`, `/usr/lib/bootc/kargs.d/`, and @fiftydinar for your new ability to include kargs in your native container image.

Just make sure to update with `bootc` instead of `rpm-ostree`.

Check it out!

Reboost ♻️ plz: #EU_OS is now partner for the French Gov Hack days early June in Paris.

The organisers were so kind to create a dedicated track covering the OS part of the digital workspace.

Check out the call for participants to join the EU OS team in Paris (or online):

From #CentOSConnect: Carol Chen and Cedric Clyburn talked about using bootable containers to deploy AI workloads.

The Joy of Linux Theming in the Age of Bootable Containers

blues.win/posts/joy-of-linux-t

eu-os.gitlab.io received a few updates today after some legit criticism.

- Logo has now consistently a purple gradient for more distinction to EU flag πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡Ί.
- Home page: EU OS is not yet an EU project
- FAQs acknowledge that Linux is already used in the public sector. The unique selling point is better clarified: use of #bootc and more collaboration across the EU to bring down the costs for a migration from Windows #endof10
- university of Oslo added to use cases πŸŽ‰

I'm really exited about RHEL image mode that offers a method to manage RHEL in a container native way.

If you like to know how what it has to offer checkout my tutorial at: developers.redhat.com/articles

Sorry but BTRFS snapshots don't offer the same functionalities of or RPM-OSTree+OCI images that would be perfect for multiple vendors like public institutions looking for "layering" their customizations on top of each others.

@zygoon Thanks! These seem nice for testing any OS workload. #bootc is a bit special as the result/artifact *is* the OS image, so the very point is to *not* use a "standard" OS image. But this is of course useful for testing just about any other project on the common distros.

TIL that you can build a #bootc derivative container, a qcow2 image from it, boot it with QEMU (including /dev/kvm!!!) in #GitHub #workflows , and run some smoke test inside that VM in 5 mins. This is practical and pleasantly fast.

#bootc testing, here we come!
