Indeed. I go to the extremes of not giving #CAGEFAM my info. Not only do I not have accounts with them, I refuse to email those users (thus, #email is mostly dead to me). That also means I’ve degoogled my phone & avoid playstore.
But from the article, notice this:

That data is not likely harvested from online activity. #Xandr has that info because a _grocer_ sold it to them. So you can’t even trust local B&M shops.
That means:
* pay in cash
* stay away from loyalty cards
In principle we should be able to ask grocers who they sell the loyalty card info to. But they need not disclose that-- not even in Europe (the #GDPR has no requirement that data controllers disclose who they share with).
