I'm going to miss hearing Laurence Wall read the news on Radio One. A soothing and almost hypnotic voice and true Canadian pronunciation of words like 'schedule' and 'lieutenant'.

Won't be the same without him but here's to a long happy retirement for an Ottawa legend.

I keep hearing right wing economists on #CBCradioOne saying that #Canada has a "Productivity Problem", especially compared to our neighbours South of the border. I say no. What we do have, is a different sense of priorities. We are not #Americans, we value work life balance here. The Americans have taken the so called "Protestant Work Ethic", and made it absurd.

At the end of last Friday's The World at Six (the main national news program) on #CBCRadioOne , after presenting cbc.ca/lite/story/1.6810428 , the host said "I think a lot of us can identify with that" with respect to how the woman didn't want to come out of the cave. I suppose the lack of #responsibillity and #stress could be atrractive for many, but the #social #isolation would probably break people...

Lots of #GenreFiction this year.

#Ducks, by #KateBeaton is a #GraphicNovel. #Hotline by #DimitriNasrallah is set in the 1980s, and makes use of memory, time periods, and elements of #magicrealism There are 2 #Novels that are #EcoFiction, a #SubGenre of #SpeculativeFiction - #ScienceFiction. They are #Greenwood by #MichaelChristie, and #StationEleven by #EmilyStJohnMandel. #MexicanGothic by #SilviaMorenoGarcia is a #Gothic #Horror novel. #GothicHorror.
#CanadianFiction has come a long way from the White Anglophone #NationalAngst and grim self-introspection #Realism that once haunted our #culturalPsyche.

I was excited to hear #Mastodon mentioned on #CBCRadioOne during a discussion on the #TwitterMigration. Unfortunately the "expert" had a very superficial understanding of Mastodon and didn't mention the concept of the #Fediverse. The expert comparison was pretty much "It's #Twitter with more characters and less users". I've noticed a few #CBC journalists have joined so hopefully Mastodon and the fediverse will get some more accurate coverage.
