A drive/hike through a redwood forest is unlike any other drive or hike you will ever experience. As your drive or hike quickly becomes a journey back in time.
I drove the road to Stout Grove and discovered a magical landscape that made me feel as if I was in sacred territory.

Through A Redwood Forest You are standing on a quiet dirt road deep inside an old‑growth redwood forest. The trees around you are enormous—towering straight up like living pillars, their trunks thick, rough, and rising so high that their tops disappear into a canopy far above. The forest feels ancient, almost sacred, as if time moves differently here. Soft sunlight filters through the branches, creating gentle patches of dappled light on the ground. The air seems still and hushed, with only faint hints of birdsong somewhere in the distance. The road itself is covered in a fine layer of pale dust, the kind that clings to anything within a few feet of the path. The overall feeling is peaceful and reverent—like you’ve stepped into a cathedral made of trees. The scale of the redwoods makes you feel small in the best possible way, surrounded by quiet strength and natural beauty.

Stout Grove

Stout Memorial Grove is a beautiful stand of redwoods in Northern California. The trail through the grove is short and sweet with access to the Smith River. We sat on the river bank and listened to the wind blow through the trees as the river ran lazy in the early fall.
I captured this image on the way back from the river.

Stout Grove Imagine standing in a quiet forest where the air feels cool and earthy. The mood is serene and almost reverent — like stepping into a natural cathedral where the silence is broken only by the whisper of wind through leaves and the faint sound of the nearby river.

Redwood Dream

I captured this image one early morning in Muir Woods. These trees have always amazed me with their height, beauty, and the resiliency to the environment around them.
There is a special mysticism that can be felt as you walk around these trees and feel the soft bark of these giants.

Redwood Dream This is an abstract image of a redwood forest captured at Muir Woods in Marin County, California. These trees are fairly young and small compared to most redwoods but the feeling is the same as you walk through these ancient trees. I used a slow shutter and in camera movement to create this image. The bark of the trees looks fairly sharp but the branches have some blur to them giving the image a dreamy appearance.
