#ThickTrunkTuesday A small group of relatively young giant sequoias (sequoiadendron giganteum), #NationalTrust Nymans, West Sussex. These are amongst a healthy population of sequoias growing at this location, some of which are over a century old and reach a height of some 40 metres. Sequoias are a long term project in any arboretum and will need several centuries more before they get anywhere near full-grown. #Trees #Plants #Sequoias

From the centre foreground of the image, a well trodden path, dappled with sunlight, veers off to the right before being obscured by the dense foliage of a small sequoia. Sometime around the end of the last ice age
—around 20,000 years ago
—a single aspen seed rooted, sprouted, and began cloning itself
in what is now central Utah.
Known as #Pando, which comes from the Latin “I spread,”
