Snowy hills around Loch Venachar and Callander this morning.

#Callander #LochVenachar #Perthshire #Scotland #Snow

A view on a cold, sunny, clear day across a loch towards some snow-topped hills. There is a lower hill in front without snow, and two behind which are white with snow. The water of the loch reflects the hills, with a few ripples.A view on a cold, sunny, clear day across a loch towards some snow-topped hills. In the foreground is a low stone wall, with a thick layer of frost on top. Below is a frosty field that goes down to the loch; and then across the water are the hills.A view on a cold, sunny, clear day of some trees in the shallow water of a lochside, with the loch beyond and some snow-topped hills on the other side. The trees are silhouetted against the bright day. A little of the rocky shoreline is visible, too, and the loch surface has some ripples.A view on a cold, sunny, clear day across a field, over a river in spate and across towards some snow-topped hills. There are a couple of people walking in the field.

November 1st was a date of significant amenity losses in central Scotland.
#OTD in 1955, #Alva lost its railway station; the nearest station is now 4km away at #Alloa (itself with no rail links for 40 years from 1968).
In 1965 #Callander lost its station, leaving the nearest as Dunblane, all of 17km away, and #Doune lost its station, leaving the nearest as again Dunblane, 6km away.

The sign outside caught my eye.
A secret garden, how amazing is that!

There was indeed a garden section to the Ben Ledi cafe but being able to people-watch while enjoying a mighty fine cup of coffee and munching on the finest Avocado Toast it's been my pleasure to consume since my recent 'relationship' with all things 🥑 began, won the day.

The image depicts Bracklinn Falls in Callander, Scotland. It is a vintage postcard from around the turn of the 20th century. The view captures the natural beauty of the landscape with the waterfall cascading down from the rock face into a pool below. There's a small bridge visible just to the left side of the image, providing access to the falls. Surrounding the water are lush trees and foliage, indicating a rich biodiversity in the area. The postcard captures not only the physical attributes of the falls but also hints at the tranquility they might offer visitors.

Bridge and Ben Ledi, Callander, Scotland between ca. 1890 and ca. 1900. Views of landscape and architecture in Scotland Scotland Callander

loc.gov/pictures/item/20017035

The image depicts a tranquil rural scene from Scotland, most likely Callander, between the years 1890 and 1900. The view is from a high vantage point looking down upon a small town nestled amidst nature.

The town is laid out in an orderly fashion with houses lining the streets that lead towards a church on the right side of the image. The architecture is simple yet charming, indicative of a bygone era. A bridge spans across a river that runs through the middle of the town, connecting different parts of the settlement.

The landscape surrounding the town is lush with trees and vegetation. It's a clear day with ample sunlight illuminating the scene, casting long shadows and highlighting the details of the architecture and the natural environment. The colors are muted, suggesting the image may be an old photograph or a painting from that time period.

This image captures not only the physical elements present in this location but also provides a glimpse into the daily life and architectural style of that era in Scotland.

The image is an old postcard depicting a serene landscape. The setting appears to be the Callander region in Scotland, given the watermark text "Views of landscape and architecture in Scotland". The postcard captures a valley nestled between hills, with trees dotting the landscape and buildings peeking out from among them, suggesting a small town or village in the distance. The colors are muted, with earth tones dominating the scene, which is characteristic of old photographs or printed images from around the turn of the century.

The motherchip 😱

Wasn't sure what chippy to go to in Callander now Mhor Fish is gone. Went to the one at 85 Main Street (use to be the Fiery Cross) and would ya look at this badboy! That solves that then.

A very long chip (thick-cut fry) absolutely coated in stringy white cheese, to the point where you can't really see a chip underneath tbh, being held from the top on a quiet dark night in a small town centre.

Nice day for a walk around Loch Venachar. We used to have loch nights at the head of the loch when I was a teenager, but I'd never walked round it before. 12.75 miles on good tracks and minor roads.

Dear #infosec is there a guide/suggestions on setting up a locked down user on Linux, only able to listen to/send to specific (localhost) ports?

I’ve got a rust program based on Axum, possibly wrapped in #callander, and want to keep it as locked down as possible.

Any tips/pointers really appreciated!

Thank you :)🙏

Souvenirs!

Yarn is from a newish yarn shop called Stitchcraft Callander which sells yarn and fabric and also does classes.

Books from an excellent second bookshop called Oakholm Books in Aberfeldy (and don't miss The Watermill there either for new books and gifts!)

Coasters (plus non-pictured secret Christmas presents) from Boo Vake, a wee shop in Perth that has lovely gifts and homewares. I also love the Tayberry Gallery in Perth but alas, it was closed.

A pile of four P.G Wodehouse books with a skein of cloudy grey yarn on top and two ceramic coasters alongside

Poor footage (handheld at 260mm, windy, not in focus, etc) but happy to share my best ever view of a Scottish specialist, the #Crossbill.

Spotted yesterday in #Callander

Today I'm thankful for wee hills with big views 🙏

A hike today up little #BenGullipen (414m) in #Callander, @LomondTrossachs@twitter.com #NationalPark

Proof that you don't have to climb high to have your head in the clouds 💚 #Grateful2023

The Bracklinn Falls in Callander, Scotland. Stunning scenery on a short drive from Stirling!

Some pictures taken with the (previously on...) #Halina #Paulette.

These were taken with some old #Kodak #TriX400 I'd got on eBay preloaded into a #BulkLoader for £13. Guessing it was closer to £130 quid's worth of nicely aged film. Shooting in lower light than it was really up to, but that's how the spooky is made!

Location: #BracklinFalls #Callander

Black and white photo of a boulder-bounded waterfall in a forest. Overall the picture is dark apart from glimpses of white water and a slight shimmer of silver leaved trees to the top left. A figure is barely distinguishable standing on the rocks at the top of the waterfall and fading into the forest. Were they there and corporeal, or...?A black and white photo looking downhill through woodland. It's Autumn and fallen leaves lighten through ground.A dark black and white picture of a hedge lined pathway, just wide enough for two to walk side-by-side. There is the dark silhouette of trees, behind which a rolling hill curves the sky.Black and white photo of a bridge over a waterfall, the bridge itself is surrounded and partially hidden by forest. In the foreground there are the limbs of a fallen tree.

The landmasses of England & Wales were once separate from Scotland & North Ireland. The "join" of those two landmasses passes through the Loch Lomond National Park, as do these spectacular falls.
