I think that's definitely part of it, but unfortunately (and I'm only hazarding a guess since I'm not on BS, and barely on here anymore) I'm also of the opinion that a lot of "bigger" accounts miss the Internet points that #xitter offers up (a LOT of which comes—directly and indirectly—from bot accounts/trolls).
So even people who aren't outright Nazis will stay/go back to #twitter because they want the "engagement" numbers...and because #clout is a helluva drug.
You may cast a clout (or two), even if it is a little early. (But don't throw them away; you may need to re-clout.)

Our lives are driven so much by the algorithm now. We don't need to build a following anymore.
Well, not the entire way. Just build momentum and the algorithm takes over to compound it.
Before the algorithm, you had to tell people to "smash that like button" to help discoverability of your content. Now, the algorithm watches your viewer closely and decides if they were entertained enough.
