I wasn’t really into making a gelatin or agar dessert themed collage so I went for #jellyfish which are way cooler! I had fun using punches to make incomplete circles from acrylic ink-dyed paper to become the jellies. Fountain pen ink and shiny gel ink was used for the rest of the details.

A collage of partial circles punched from paper dyed with purple and a teal blue to make the bodies, bells, of jellyfish. They are all capped with a shiny, purple ink. The tentacles have been hand drawn with gray ink that has a silver shimmer and has been washed with a water brush. There is also copper ink and the purple ink as well in the tentacles.

I was going through several old National Geographics trying to see if I spotted an ad for a Polaroid camera. Instead I found a column of Waring products, including the #IceJet! The person skiing was on the same page. I used my square punches and paper painted with watercolors for the ice cubes.

There is a black and white drawing of the attachment on the Waring Blendor to the right of the text. Squares of different shades of blue edged in shiny ink are collaged to appear to be coming out of the attachment. The cubes get bigger and bigger as they “fall” down the page.

At the bottom right, on top of large blue squares, is another piece of vintage advertising. This one is a line drawing of a feminine figure downhill skiing. The word, “Enjoy” is over the left arm of the figure.

Sparkly, silver ink is scribbled onto the squares.

This was another fun one! The person in a yoga pose came from a catalog. The ground and all the stones are wallpaper. I drew stone shapes and cut them out, working from the bigger stones to the small ones.

I spent many years working in tech and have several old SysAdmin magazines in my collection of source materials. A rather terrible advertisement for Dice became the primary image. The circles were punched from a page with examples of Perl and ink elements added.

The images were captured from Jillian Tamaki’s Super Mutant Magic Academy comic. They were put without any of the dialogue on a single sheet of paper and distributed as a classroom activity on how to write dialogue for comics. This activity was one in a long form class on reading, writing, and drawing comics that was taught by Sarah Shay Mirk in 2022 and offered through Portland Community College.

After doing some very fussy cutting of an image from a travel magazine I constructed a background of strips of paper dyed with ink or painted with watercolor. The strips make up an abstract street with sky above, the yellow representing the sunny day in the magazine image.

After doing some very fussy cutting I really got into all the ink splatters and lines, finally deciding to discard the magazine image in favor of an abstract composition. #DiamineInk Is used extensively along with some shiny packaging and a sheet of heavy, silvery paper.
