#ComputeBlade

My #HomeLab has grown way beyond the clean and simple setup from 1.5 years ago. Time to optimize — but let’s be real, a HomeLab is never done.

Another upgrade for the #Homelab: #3Dprinted a mount for the #ComputeBlade to get it onto the #IKEA #Skadis board. Simple, but solid for now!

Well, that was smooth—mounted my existing NVMe and #RaspberryPi CM4 to the #ComputeBlade, powered it via PoE, and it booted right up. Took 5 minutes.

Hardest part? Designing a mounting case for it in the next days.

Finally got my #Kickstarter-backed #ComputeBlade! Replacing my last #RasperryPi 4 node in the #K3S cluster—now all worker nodes are PoE-powered.

First pass at 10” rack modular design derivative of Uptime Lab’s blade runner for . I’ve got a few things to iron out before the blades arrive, airflow alignment, rear rack supports, and getting it printed in something better than PLA.

The #computeblade heatsink looks better sanded.

Looks unlikely I'll get the rest of my order, though. One of the blades is bad, too.

First node deployed. Unfortunately I didn’t manage to get CoreOS running just yet. But at some point I‘ll manage! More to be deployed soon (need to get a PoE switch first 😬)

On my everlasting quest to get rid of everything x86, I just ordered a chassis, a RPI carrier & a RPI4 8GB compute module for testing. Looking forward to it, but sounds promising! computeblade.com

Just learned about this computeblade.com and their website aesthetic is excellent. #ComputeBlade

Received the new #ComputeBlade by
@merocle two days ago. FreeBSD is now up and running – thanks to some BSD & EFI magic.
Now I can finally run automated tests for FreeBSD ports on #onARM with a scalable #RaspberryPi cluster.
How-to coming soon🚀 #FreeBSD #Homelab

Ooh, almost forgot the important part.

I'm not much of a [ahem] fan of how the cooling is mounted. I'll have to wrap up those cables somehow, and the board just kind of sits there, mostly held in by the rubbery material on the fans.

Aww, the cm4 board has a little smile for me. Wait, what?

Sigh, metal shaving in the SSD screw post. Hadn't planned on all this machining.

Okay, back on my shit again. I found a 3mm tap, but not a bottoming tap so I'm just drilling the hole through first. It still doesn't quite line up but close enough for plastic I guess.

The clip, threaded. At long last, a 3mm tap!

It looks like the holes are 2.50 mm for a 3mm screw, which would be perfect if I were tapping the hole. Now if I only could find my 3mm taps...

Also my expression when the holes for the clip don't line up.
