I read the letters column in the Denver Post until the "secure connection failed." Some of the letter writers were bewildered that Donald Trump had trashed Aurora with misinformation that went nationwide and stained the city's reputation for years to come for no reason other than his own personal political gain.
These days, Is Donald Trump lying (of course he is) or confabulating? Confabulation is a term referring to making up details of stories without realizing one is doing it. Strictly speaking, it is not lying, even though what the person is saying is not true. Confabulation results from brain damage. It is usually associated with brain damage from alcoholism, but alcoholism is not the only cause. As a matter strictly of my own personal opinion and from my experience of following the 2024 presidential campaign, I think Donald Trump is confabulating. If this is so - keep in mind that Trump has not been forthcoming with his medical information as Kamala Harris has - then every voter ought to be tremendously concerned about the possibility of electing a candidate who may be brain damaged.

One of my readers tricked ChatGPT into generating a summary of the content at ErosBlog. Among the confabulatory bullshit that came back was the claim that Erosblog is "often" referred to as "the sex blog of record." Which is sweet, but, um...
It's a lie! Nobody ever referred to ErosBlog like that. I would have noticed. Confirming, the phrase doesn't exist in any search engine.

This video does not do quite what the caption seems to claim. Nonetheless, it is a very interesting look at the cognitive functioning of Joe Biden, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., and Donald Trump.
Years ago, I looked up the word, "confabulate" or "confabulation," online; and my searches, at that time, turned up no hits defining the word as used in this video. So, that short passage here is worth some special attention. Confabulation is closely associated with alcohol abuse; but it stems from brain damage and, as far as I am aware, it is not strictly limited to alcoholics. Confabulation involves saying things, occasionally somewhat elaborate stories, that are fictitious but that the speaker says as though it is true. It is different from lying.

Call it what it is: confabulation. Or in other words, just making shit up -- with zero regard for, or awareness of, whether any of it is true.
A professor tells his 63 students to ask #ChatGPT for an essay (on religious symbolism in children's fantasy literature). Which the students should grade for #hallucination|s and critique the analysis.
All of them found hallucinated sources.

Thank you for this thread. I didn't think hallucinate was quite the right word, but confabulate is exactly correct. Those experiments on people with severed hemispheres really altered my understanding of things!
