¿Sabían que, a pesar de ostentar el título de Hechicero Supremo, el Doctor Strange no encajaría en los gremios de la Wicca o el paganismo debido a que su práctica se fundamenta en lo que técnicamente se conoce como magia vulgar?
El enfoque que tienen algunos gremios paganos y la Wicca difiere significativamente de la forma en que se representa la magia en personajes como el Doctor Strange de Marvel.
En algunas tradiciones paganas y Wicca, la magia se entiende como una forma de trabajar en armonía con las fuerzas naturales y los ciclos del cosmos. Se trata más de una conexión con lo sagrado, el conocimiento de uno mismo y de la naturaleza, y un camino hacia el crecimiento espiritual. El objetivo no es forzar la realidad a la voluntad del practicante (magia vulgar), sino más bien cooperar con las energías del universo para manifestar cambios de manera ética y equilibrada. A menudo se basa en rituales, meditación y la comprensión de las propiedades de hierbas, cristales y otros elementos naturales.
Por otro lado, en la ficción de Marvel, las habilidades del Doctor Strange, si bien poderosas y complejas, a menudo implican la manipulación directa de la energía y la realidad para lograr resultados específicos, como abrir portales, lanzar hechizos ofensivos o defensivos, y alterar el tiempo. Este tipo de magia se representa con frecuencia como una fuerza que se puede dirigir y controlar activamente para combatir amenazas o resolver problemas, a veces con grandes demostraciones de poder y graves consecuencias.
Por lo tanto, la diferencia radica en la concepción fundamental de la magia: como una colaboración respetuosa con el cosmos en algunas tradiciones paganas y Wicca, frente a una manipulación activa de la realidad y la energía en la representación ficticia del Doctor Strange.
