@eddiebbot 2/2 modifications of our whole being: our instincts, perceptions, vision, sense of time, instinctive conduct, interpretative perception. Our very notions of fatigue and prediction have changed in both form and meaning. In the area of the transformation of labor we have a typical example of the price that has to be paid. --Jaques Ellul The Technological Bluff (1988)

@eddiebbot 2/2 that the countryside without inhabitants is either uninterestingly incoherent or else it takes the form of a public park. --Jaques Ellul The Technological Bluff (1988)

@eddiebbot 2/2 transported and distributed free (since they have no cash to give in return). This cost of maintaining a people that used to have a stable society has to be regarded as the passive side of the activity of seal hunting. --Jaques Ellul The Technological Bluff (1988)

@eddiebbot 2/2 deny that consumption is up but to point out that the growth is far less important than imagined. We have to include products that are eliminated. Mechanized farming may produce more food, but we have to consider that a calorie of food now demands the consumption of a calorie of fuel. A team of oxen or horses would use less. --Jaques Ellul The Technological Bluff (1988)

...pollution, health problems, protective measures, nuisances of all kinds. Growth carries with it costs that change all calculations according to whether we include them. There has been agricultural destruction in order to promote industrial development (e.g., in the Tennessee Valley in the USA or the juran??on vineyard in France). --Jaques Ellul The Technological Bluff (1988)

Got one more piece in my #dystopia literature shelf with Brave New World. Was looking for it since forever. Already have Fahrenheit 451 and 1984. What's another classic?

You guys - it's so easy. All we have to do is imagine we live in a world where one anonymous hot take will go viral and change everything! Then, we spend our time writing hot takes and the problems magically fix themselves.

It's almost ... too easy.

Watched 2073 tonight, have you seen it yet?

Followed it up with Fahrenheit 451, crazy that book was published in 1953. I like the modern twist on it that now includes the internet, as it hadn’t been invented when Ray Bradbury wrote it.

Any recommendations for similar movies?

A neck gaiter does not protect self or others from airborn illnesses. #notAmask

It does, however, do a great job of hiding one's identity, lest one is later sought by law enforcement or the courts.

A MASK:
A large elastomeric respirator mask with dual filters. (Versions of this exist to filter tear gas, for example).A MASK:
A now-common N95 style mask, used to filter aerosols (which can transmit viruses) or particulates (like wildfire smoke).NOT A MASK:
Photo of a militia member in uniform, with bullet-proof vest bearing Homelabd Security insignia and badge. They have a camo neck gaiter pulled up to cover their mouth and ears, but not their nose.

This is not a mask, but an identity obfuscation tactic - the government knows that ears can be used like fingerprints to identify individuals.

I think it was pretty accurate in terms of what a crappy AI made by ruthless/mindless oligarchs could do in the future, in the image of their creators.

NEXT (2020) : A former tech CEO joins an FBI Cybersecurity Agent to stop the emergence of a rogue Artificial Intelligence.

AUDACIOUS, STUNNINGLY BLEAK tale of profound horror set in a haven of dubious refuge from total climate collapse blends the medieval and the modern, the arid and the passionate to startling effect. A MINUS

@BrodieOnLinux as someone else pointed out somewhere else, AI is for making images of women with 5 boobs, not real life-affecting stuff.

I will be living with physical light switches even if Sam Altman wants them to be illegal.
