@stman @theruran @50htz @vidak @forthy42 Worst-Case doing #AES256 [aka. Rijndael] in hardware should be totally in the cards as it was *specifically designed with #EmbeddedSystems like Crypto Chipcards in mind.

  • So something like a transparent encryption/decryption unit would be feasible.

Ideally something the size of a Pager or Nokia Communicator long-clamshell or some tiny box would be ideal.

  • Maybe even have it amnesiac with no permanent key storage and a wipe button to flush RAM with 0s and 1s to remove any key material in it.

A technical note for developers working with wireless connectivity: Implementing BLE security on the KT1025A Bluetooth chip.

The chip allows setting a 6-digit pairing passcode via the AT+BN command, which is a good start.

This approach is far more secure than relying on the pairing passcode alone and is a good practice for many BLE-based projects.

The chip allows setting a 6-digit pairing passcode via the AT+BN command, which is a good start. However, the BLE standard has known limitations at this level.

For more robust security, we strongly recommend designing a custom application-layer validation protocol. Once the BLE connection is established, have your authorized app send a specific encrypted or encoded frame that the device must correctly parse and acknowledge before proceeding. This effectively gates functionality on your own software terms.

This approach is far more secure than relying on the pairing passcode alone and is a good practice for many BLE-based projects.

Coming from particle physics to embedded systems simulators, “event” means something very different.
HEP triggers select independent snapshots, so analysis parallelizes easily and time is mostly a label.
In embedded systems simulators, events are causally linked state changes, and time must advance in order.
Same word, very different meaning. So difficult to parallelize and keep everything synch in this second case.

Just achieved a rock-solid 8µs max jitter on a standard 500€ PC (codename: Katana) using a custom Buildroot env and Kernel 6.12.57-rt14.

​The craziest part? It’s running off a 2015 USB 2.0 stick! 🤯

​16 threads stress-tested (cyclictest)
​cpu_dma_latency set to 0µs
​Average jitter: 1µs
​Zero tuning in BIOS
