So I found out that the Roland Aerophone AE-20 has bluetooth MIDI. (It's part of the instrument fleet of my wife.) It can be easily connected to my UbuntuStudio system. Shows up in Patchance / Pipewire then.
(I clicked the KDE bluetooth icon bottom right, then on the + symbol in the upcoming menue, and once the Aerophone has bluetooth switched on, it showed up in the list of available devices on the computer.)
However, I couldn't get any actual MIDI messages from it yet. Which might be a different problem.
What does
strings $(which bluetoothd) |grep -i midi
Look like on your system? Not sure if this is a proper indicator.

I guess I never really thought about the mid to long term lifecycle of the devices I installed for #HomeAutomation #HomeAssistant, so this is a good reminder to pay attention. EVERY DEVICE BECOMES OBSOLETE.
I don’t own any of these switched outlets, so I dodged this bullet. (If you do, I suggest Meross as a substitute brand — reliable and cheap.
This is also a reminder that devices that don’t work without a manufacturer’s app or cloud are particularly vulnerable. It is sometimes impossible to tell until you really test them. A good argument to be made for #SelfHosting and self-configuring devices.

Trying to use #BLE-MIDI devices on @ubuntustudio and they won't even connect. Searching the web suggested that #bluez (the #Bluetooth Stack) by default is built without #MIDI enabled and you have to recompile it with --midi-enable. But these howtos are all a few years old.
Does anyone in the #linuxaudio community know if this is still the case? How can I find out if bluez is built with or without BLE MIDI?

A technical note for developers working with wireless connectivity: Implementing BLE security on the KT1025A Bluetooth chip.
The chip allows setting a 6-digit pairing passcode via the AT+BN command, which is a good start.
This approach is far more secure than relying on the pairing passcode alone and is a good practice for many BLE-based projects.
