#erlang friends! How do you set up facades? It appears erlang 25 refuses to let me import a function with an arity if the local module that imports it also declares a function with the same signature. Do you rename the functions?

Remember Phoenix LiveViews in tests are stateful. I was pulling my hair out why it first didn't and then worked when I didn't reassign the result of e.g. render_click().
LiveViews are always stateful processes but the functional brain forgot about it.
In the end, I needed to read and write Erlang and JavaScript FFIs for Gleam, which means Gleam requires a JavaScript or Erlang background to build something that everyone thinks is cool. Now I think Gleam is a lightweight wrapper that controls the Erlang VM or the HTML DOM via JavaScript interop. #gleam #erlang #beam #js #javascript #webdev

So, after fiddling around a bit, I came to a conclusion that trying to run BEAM applications (Erlang/Elixir/etc) in Docker while communicating with them from the host is exhausting.
Mainly because, ironically, BEAM was designed from the ground up to be multi-host, but it requires a discovery service (epmd) to be present on a specific port (4369). So if you want BEAM on your host (with its own epmd), you can't port-forward epmd from your container to its port as well.

I still remember trying to sell people on Erlang back at an old job and it went something like “think of it as concurrent functional lisp” and they were like “Lisp’s syntax is terrible” and I was like “then good news because this is Prolog syntax” and that wasn’t better.
